Synopsis Disney s Beauty and the Beast The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity. Great Opportunities for performers of all levels! Character List for Beauty and the Beast Belle (female): Belle is a smart, confident young woman from a small village. Maurice (male): Maurice is an aging and eccentric inventor, but more importantly, the adoring and protective father of Belle. Beast (male): The Beast is a young prince who was hideously transformed by the Enchantress s spell. As the show goes on, we learn that although hideous on the outside he is truly beautiful on the inside. Gaston (male): Gaston is arrogant and foolish and will do whatever it takes to win Belle s hand. Gaston has all the confidence in the world but lacks the humility to balance it. He is the opposite of the beast, Beautiful on the outside but hideous on the inside. Lefou (male or female but will be played as a male): Lefou is Gaston s equally dim-witted minion. Silly Girls (3, female): The Silly Girls are in love with Gaston and will do almost anything just to be near him. Lumiere (male or female but will be played as a male): Lumiere is a confident, charming French mâitre d who (under the enchantress s spell) is becoming a candelabra. French accent is a plus. Cogsworth (male): Cogsworth is the British major-domo of the castle who is becoming a clock. English accent is a plus. Mrs. Potts (female): Mrs. Potts is the castle s loveable cook who is becoming a teapot. English accent is a plus. Babette (female): Babette is the maid of the castle who is turning into a feather duster. She misses the finer things in life. This actor may also be a part of the ensemble* if needed. Madame De La Grande Bouche (female): Madame De La Grande Bouche is an opera singer who is becoming a wardrobe. Madame is larger-than-life in everything she does. This actor may also be a part of the ensemble* if needed. Chip (male or female but will be played as a male): Chip is Mrs. Potts s son who is becoming a teacup. Old Beggar Woman/Enchantress (female): The Old Beggar Woman/Enchantress should be portrayed by an actor with a flair for the visually dramatic as this is a non-speaking role. This actor will also be a part of the ensemble* and may have multiple roles depending on casting turnout. Monsieur D'arque (male or female but will be played as a male): Monsieur D'Arque is the proprietor of the lunatic asylum. This actor will also be a part of the ensemble* and may have multiple roles depending on casting turnout. Servants (male and female) The Servants of the castle can include Statues, a Dust Pan, Flatware, Plates, an Egg Timer, Napkins, a Carpet, Salt & Pepper Shakers and any other household items. These roles are part of the ensemble* and may have multiple roles depending on turnout. Villagers (male and female): The Villagers are the inhabitants of Belle s town. These roles are part of the ensemble* and may have multiple roles depending on turnout. *What is the ensemble? Ensemble parts are all of the roles that aren t leads but are actually more important than the leads. These can include students who are dancers and singers as well as actors. These roles are what truly bring the musical alive because without them, the show would not feel real. These roles are what make a show great! [2]
