CASTING ANNOUNCEMENT The Cast list will be announced as soon as the production staff have reviewed and discussed each applicant. You will be either called or emailed to those cast members who provide emails. Casting will be dependent on an audition and the actors conflict schedules. REHEARSALS A cast meeting for all cast will be held on Tuesday, June 25, at 5:30 PM. We will meet in the Little Theatre to familiarize the cast with the script, and other materials, including the rehearsal schedule. We may begin costume measurements, and you will have an opportunity to meet the production team. There is a $20 deposit for all scripts. Checks can be made out to FCOA, and they will be returned to you at set strike. Rehearsals will be scheduled Sunday through Thursdays. Starting times will vary either beginning at 5:30 or 7:00pm. Additional rehearsal times will be decided based upon the conflict calendar and any announcements. As the show evolves and we get closer to Opening Night, rehearsals will start requiring all actors to be present. Some rehearsals will go longer than 9:00 p.m. We ask for your understanding as part of the creative process. We ask that all actors please bring a pencil with them to mark blocking notes in their scripts. It is expected that all cast will be on time to their scheduled rehearsals. DO NOT BE LATE. Tardiness disrupts the production. Cast will notify the director, stage manager, or one of the producers if they will be late. HEADSHOTS/PUBLICITY Cast in principle roles may have their headshots on display in the outer cases. Each cast member will be financially responsible for the cost of the headshot. No photos will be on display without approval from the director. There will be a photographer arranged for those who do not yet have a headshot on file with the Theatre. East member is requested to help promote the production of STEEL MAGNOLIAS. We would appreciate each cast member to promote the production through their local organizations, schools, or other civic duties. The production staff has additional opportunities to promote the production and will be looking for volunteers to help. If you have potential ideas to promote the production, please let a member of the production staff know as soon as possible. Please remember that, although you, as a cast member, may not agree with all decisions in the production of the show, it is expected that you support the show and its production staff. The whole team and cast are responsible for a positive experience. SHOW MEMORIABLIA All cast and crew will have the opportunity to purchase memorabilia commemorating the production. This is not a required or mandatory purchase.
Steel Magnolias By Robert Harling THE STORY: The action is set in Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town's rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, ("I'm not crazy, I've just been in a bad mood for forty years"); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M'Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a "good ole boy." Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy when, in the second act, the spunky Shelby (who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and forfeits her life. The sudden realization of their mortality affects the others, but also draws on the underlying strength and love which give the play, and its characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad. Cast of Characters needed: Five women ranging in age from 19 to 66. Specifically: TRUVY JONES 40ish. Owner of the beauty shop. ANNELLE DUPUY-DESOTO 19-21. Beauty shop assistant. CLAIREE BELCHER 66ish. Widow of former mayor. Grande dame. SHELLBY EATENON-LATCHERIE 25. Prettiest girl in town. M LYNN EATENTON 50ish. Shellby s mother. Socially prominent career woman. OUISER (pronounced Weezer ) BOUDREAUX 66ish. Wealthy curmudgeon. Acerbic but loveable.
