Issue 5 Sing Saturday 21 st June 2014 MOZART REQUIEM Two aspects: 1) Please see if you can come along to welcome our visiting singers and make their experience as enjoyable as possible by singing alongside you; we have a visiting conductor as Adrian is unavailable so it would be nice for him to see a sea of faces too! He is Calum Fraser and conducts, among others, Caledonian Voices. He is a former student of Adrian s and, coincidentally, did his degree dissertation on the Mozart Requiem. 2) WE ALSO NEED VOLUNTEERS to do the refreshments as Jennifer Bury is not available this time. She will provide the refreshment wherewithal MINUS the biscuits and will hand this over on Monday 16 th June (next Berlioz rehearsal). Please email Allen or phone him (or text him) on 07798-576755 to volunteer. Hire the Choir 28 th June 2014 Singers Needed We have a booking for a wedding in Stinchcombe on the afternoon of 28 th June and we need a few additional singers. Specifically, we need a couple of sopranos and a couple of tenors. You will have noticed the clash with the all-day rehearsal for the Berlioz and you may be concerned that you will fall foul of the minimum rehearsal requirement if you sing in the choir at this wedding. Be reassured that no-one who sings in the wedding will be penalised in that
way but it would be good if you did attend at least the first hour of the Berlioz rehearsal before going down to Stinchcombe. As chairman, I will be doing that and can offer lifts to and from Denmark Road School for up to four others (bids in asap!). I also intend to get back for the last hour of the Berlioz if possible. If you can help out by joining this choir in the lovely St. Cyr church in Stinchcombe, please email hirethechoir@gloucesterchoral.com so we can build the choir. Also, please consider adding your name to our existing pool of singers who want to take part on future Hire the Choir engagements (we have a SPECIAL wedding on 16 th August in the cathedral, when Dominic and Catherine get married, another confirmed booking for 13 th December in Berkeley and one just in for a wedding for 25 th October in Chedworth. Please consider joining in by emailing hirethechoir@gloucesterchoral.com. Many thanks. 2 Forthcoming Berlioz rehearsals and venues Singers are expected to attend all rehearsals if at all possible. Adrian and the GCS committee will, however, listen sympathetically to reasonable requests for exemptions. Concert Specific Auditions: If you cannot make the required number of rehearsals, please tell Allen Prior in the first instance. You will be advised what the process will be nearer to the concert dates. 16th June Gloucester Cathedral Nave 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. 28th June The High School for Girls, Denmark Road, Gloucester. 10:30 am to 4:30 pm (lunchtime 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm) 30th June Sir Thomas Rich s School, Oakleaze, Gloucester. 7:30pm to 9:30pm - below a direct link to the Rehearsal Notes prepared by Adrian. http://gloucesterchoral.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/rehearsal- Notes.pdf
