PEER ASSESSMENT PAPER A QUESTION 4A The Simpsons is scheduled on Channel 4 at 6.00 pm which lasts for a half an hour until 6.30 pm. The Simpsons is also broadcast on Sky 1 and scheduled for 7pm 9pm on Sky 1 they show a new series of The Simpsons which is more up to date than Channel 4 when they show The Simpsons. Channel 4 is a british channel and shows british programs, The Simpsons is an American comedy program but its shown on Channel 4 because its entertaining, nots so much offensive and its about a family and about every day life which everyone can relate to. It is scheduled on Sky 1 because Sky is an American broadcaster and shows many commercial animations. The Simpsons is a slapstick comedy. They show The Simpsons on Sky 1 because it is an American animation and is shown at 7pm on Sky 1 because that s the time where all families gather rand on the sofa and watch some television. The Simpsons is also shown on Channel 4 at 6.00pm because its when all parents are home and can leave them watching it because its not so much offensive and has bits what children can watch while parents cook the dinner or go do something else while there children are watching it. PAPER B QUESTION 4B The Vicar of Dibley was scheduled on BBC one and BBC two from 1994 until 2007, airing at times of 9 PM Thursdays and Fridays. BBC as a channel gets their funding not through advertising but through the license fee. Because of this they are part of the public broadcasting service (PBS) and that PBS gives them the duty to stay loyal to the viewers through the ethos and to pleasure them with diverse programs. The ethos of the BBC as said in their mission statement is to entertain, inform and educate in which the vicar of dibley does. The vicar of dibley is shown at 9 PM after the watershed and attracts a mass audience of adults wanting to unwind at the end of the week with typical British comedy and so this adheres to the part of the BBC s ethos to entertain. However, through specials such as for comic relief and storylines that involves such things as the chauvinistic views raised in the arrival the programme also educates and informs. Due to serving so many purposes, the vicar of dibley became a flagship program, therefore filling Peak viewing time slots on prime television. It inherits it s audience from a local news programme and this leads nicely into absolutely fabulous broadcast after it which is a slightly more risky programme therefore easing the audience into more adult humour, it also does not have a lot of competition in this 9pm slot as the other channels such as ITV & Channel 4 are not airing comedy usually until much later. It also has links to the BBC brand as this is a comedy about world wide issues and this links to the BBC logo which is currently a world. The vicar of dibley is also typically BBC as it stars a BBC star in Dawn French and was shot in a tv studio using multiple camera s. PEER ASSESSMENT PAPER A QUESTION 4A Benidorm is a sitcom which is a comedy which is set in the same location with the same characters. This allows the audience to build a relationship with each of the characters as they get to know them, plus the audience is also included in the storyline as they they get to see each episode unfold. Benidorm offers us audience gratification because of the various stereotypes presented in the programme. One stereotype presented is the chav stereotype, in which we see this in the Garvey family. This can be seen as they are a white british family on holiday in Spain with their own set of normal and values. We can also see the chav stereotype come through in them due to the fact that their teenage daughter is pregnant, which is also another stereotype shown in the programme which is teenage pregnancies. This can be pleasurable to the audience as it enables the audience to feel superior towards to the family allowing the audience to look down upon the characters.another stereotype presented is the snob stereotype in which we see two of the characters. We see this by the way they both look down upon the other characters, and how they make crude remarks about the IQ of the Garvey family. This can be seen in one episode in which Mrs Garvey was speaking to one of the snobby characters and the snobby character spoke to Mrs Garvey in a very patronising way, making Mrs Garvey look rather stupid. This offers the audience gratification because of humerous it is to see certain characters being ridiculed. Plus, in some sense it establishes a relationship the snobby characters and the audience due to the audience being able to relate with the characters with them agreeing with. PAPER B QUESTION 4B Room 101 offers many audience pleasures. Firstly, the theme tune, the setting/ set and the celebrities and all familiar to the audience. In the episode 6, from series 13, the host (Frank Skinner) has the familiar celebrity guests of Alex Jones, Clive Anderson and Jack Whitehall. Secondly, the audience can identify with the same of the issues raised for example, Anderson explains how he thinks there are too many deer in England and how some should be killed, however when a deer is brought onto the set, the celebrities and Anderson cannot find the strength to kill it. Thirdly, the narrative of the programme is linior one person wins over all, but nothing gets resolved in the programme. In addition to this, the style of Room 101 is a quiz panel show with a live audience and the show is only roughly scripted.
