The Harp of Brandiswhiere: A Suite for Celtic Harp The music for The Harp of Brandiswhiere was composed by Sylvia Woods. When her husband Tom first heard her play one of the pieces, he created a character and a story to accompany it, and thus, Brandiswhiere was born. As Sylvia composed more music, she and Tom, along with her brother Don Snyder, expanded the story to enhance the music. The Harp of Brandiswhiere book includes the complete story (with beautiful color illustrations by Steve Duglas) with solo harp arrangements of the suite. When Sylvia recorded the music, she and Don added many other instruments to help weave a fine and intricate aural tapestry. The harp and flute arrangements in this series are adapted from those recorded arrangements. The Harp of Brandiswhiere musically tells the story of an invisible island where it is always Spring. Harp players are the only visitors to this lovely island; they play the correct tune and are immediately transported there. The piece entitled In the Forest tells of the lush beauty of this isle of Spring. As the suite progresses, an evil sorcerer casts a spell of Winter upon the island, which, according to legend, will destroy it. Our hero, a young harper named Brandiswhiere, sits with his harp in a clearing in the middle of the blizzard, and plays the Spring back. And so Brandiswhiere and his harp save the isle of Spring. The grateful people of the island rejoice, and the final piece of the suite is Brandiswhiere s Triumphant Return.
