National bibliography of Estonia - Tasks Main tasks of the National Library: to compile the Estonian national bibliography to record Estonian publications in the database of national bibliography to disseminate the database of Estonian national bibliography The task for the national bibliography: to registrate and make available metadata about all documents published in Estonia or abroad in the Estonian language, or related to Estonia, regardless of their place of publication
National bibliography of Estonia - Subject The national bibliography does not register: documents of limited usage materials of temporary nature periodically published crosswords booklets issued on the Internet web-based audiovisual materials Subject to registration - physical embodiment of a work: reprints different formats (html, PDF etc.) different carriers (printed / electronic monographs, audio cassettes CD, VHS, DVD etc.)
Legal Deposit Act 1992 28 deposit copies from each edition that exceeded 50 copies 1997 8 legal deposit copies, also audiovisual items and electronic publications 2006 web publications were included The NLE contributes to the amending of the Legal Deposit Act to involve preprint files

Selection principles for web resources The general criteria followed in the registration of web publications: their publication ability to be identified exaustiveness long-term and durable value place of publication (according to publisher)
Selection principles for web resources Publications which are collected: serials and monographs conference proceedings government publications academic works cartographic publications and sheet music websites providing substantial thematic information of private persons and organisations Publications which are not collected: computer games, audiovisuals, portals, newsgroups, intranet publications, educational materials, advertisements, radio broadcasts
National bibliography selection principles for web resources The National Library of Estonia has the following principles: territory resources within.ee domain authorship author or publisher from or related to Estonia language in Estonian; publisher is from Estonia all languages topic/content significant information about Estonia publications subject clearly identifiable beginning and end
In the rapidly changing information environment and with the constantly changing and growing amount of different types of publications, national bibliography agencies carry a great responsibility the decisions made today on archiving and registration the national output have a clear impact on future researchers
