Volunteer Opportunities BCA Mentoring Program The BLN-R executive board is coordinating with the Internship and Onboarding organizations to develop a BCA mentoring program in partnership with Human Resources and the Learning, Training and Development departments. Currently, new employees receive inconsistent onboarding and mentoring experiences across the Puget Sound, and Boeing core values and initial training are not always aligned. The opportunities are there to capture the hearts and minds of our new employees and to align critical training in the onboarding and mentoring events to the Boeing core values. The goal is to also shape a more agile and productive workforce, the basis and objective for the BCA Enhanced Onboarding Project and the newly formed mentoring program. In our BLN-R database (in development), we have more than 2,600 active retirees who have shown a variety of interests in maintaining a connection with Boeing. We are currently adding a Profession field in the database that will allow our mentoring program to tap into the Salary Job Classification System (SJC). Our goal is to align the subject-matter experts by SJC skill code to the needs of new employees coming into the company. We need your help. Please contact Ron VanHoy if you re interested in leading the mentoring program on the executive board or participating with the board as a coordinator for specific skill-code events.you can reach Ron at 253-777-5190, rdvan89@comcast.net.v Kent Warehouse Northwest Harvest Join fellow BMA members as we sort and pack food to help feed the needy in our community. There are new vaccines which are not produced in eggs. Evaluation of the attenuated flu virus vaccine used during the 2015-2016 flu season has shown it was only 3 percent effective in preventing the illness, and it is not recommended for the coming flue season. A new quadrivalent dead virus vaccine, delivered as a nasal spray, includes A/California, A/Hong Kong, B/Brisbane and B/Phuket strains. Check with your health care provider to find out which vaccine is recommended for you. A flu shot each year helps maintain your resistance. Remember that the flu virus changes with each flu season, and prevention is even more important at the end of the season. Visit www.flunearyou.org for local information. It may be important to avoid areas where large numbers of people congregate when flu is prevalent. Remember to cover your cough, stay home if you have flu symptoms and call your health care provider.v 4
