SYNOPSIS Tony (Emmanuelle Bercot) is admitted to a rehabilitation center after a serious ski accident. Dependent on the medical staff and pain relievers, she takes time to look back on the turbulent ten-year relationship she experienced with Georgio (Vincent Cassell). Why did they love each other? Who is this man whom she loved so deeply? How did she allow herself to submit to this suffocating and destructive passion? For Tony, a difficult process of healing is in front of her, physical work which may finally set her free. LOGLINE Acclaimed auteur Maïwenn s magnum opus about the real and metaphysical pain endured by a woman (Emmanuelle Bercot) who struggles to leave a destructive co-dependent relationship with a charming, yet extremely self-centered lothario (Vincent Cassel). ASSETS Official Trailer: TBD Downloadable hi-res images: TBD FESTIVALS AND AWARDS 2015 Cannes Film Festival World Premiere 2015 Cannes Film Festival Best Actress for Emmanuelle Bercot (tied with Cate Blanchett & Rooney Mara) 2015 Cannes Film Festival Nominated for a Palme d Or 2015 Helsinki International Film Festival 2015 Zurich Film Festival 2015 Hamburg Film Festival Nominated for Critics Award 2015 Rio de Janiero International Film Festival 2015 Leiden International Film Festival 2016 Göteberg International Film Festival SELECT PRESS FOR MY KING What makes MON ROI (MY KING) so special is not its salutary lesson, but the way all involved bring it to life, creating an exceptionally robust, detail-driven relationship. Peter Debruge, Variety Perhaps what's really different about this film, unlike the innumerable others where someone falls in love with someone else who turns out to be bad news, is that it's from a woman's perspective for a change, and she's the relatively sane one bewitched by beauty and charm. Leslie Felperin, The Hollywood Reporter Maïwenn wants to explore the sort of toxic long-term relationship that can ensnare even the sanest, wisest people seeking to understand how luckless individuals stuck in on-again/off-again relationships remain trapped. Biographies Maïwenn (Director/Screenwriter) Maïwenn, who is sometimes credited as Maïwenn Besco or her birth name Maïwenn Le Besco, is a French actress, film director and screenwriter. Maïwenn's mother ushered her into the entertainment industry at a young age. Maïwenn starred in several films as a child, then teen, actress. The 15-year old Maïwenn met director and producer Luc Besson in 1991. That same year, due to her difficult relationship with her parents, she decided to use only her given name professionally. She and Besson soon began a relationship, and Maïwenn gave birth to their daughter when she was 16. Having lost her motivation as an actress, she interrupted her career for several years, but after her breakup with Besson, Maïwenn returned to France and resumed her career as an actress. She performed as a standup comedian in an autobiographical one-woman-show, and reentered the movie business after several filmmakers saw her comedy act in Paris. In 2006, she directed her first feature film, the semi-autobiographical PARDONNEZ-MOI. Her 2011 film POLISSE won the Jury Prize at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, and her latest film MY KING (MON ROI) was selected to compete for the Palme d'or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. Cassel s breakthrough role was in Mathieu Kassovitz s critically-acclaimed film LA HAINE where he played a troubled youth from a difficult Parisian suburb. He then appeared in a variety of movies such as L APPARTEMENT (with Monica Bellucci, before they were married), as well as Gaspar Noé s controversial IRRÉVERSIBLE, for which he appeared fully nude. In 2009, Cassel received the Cesar Award for Best Actor for his performance in MESRINE, directed by Jean-Francois Richet. He has also done a number of English-language films, such as OCEAN S TWELVE and OCEAN S THIRTEEN, BIRTHDAY GIRL, and ELIZABETH. One of his most memorable roles was the sexually manipulative Thomas Leroy in Darren Aronofsky's 2010 film BLACK SWAN.
