Transcription:

The Best American Comics Submissions for the 2018 volume: Artists or publishers who wish to submit material for consideration should please send work clearly labeled with publication date and contact information to: Bill Kartalopoulos The Best American Comics Houghton Mifflin Harcourt 3 Park Avenue New York, NY 10016 Eligibility for the 2018 volume: Work published in North America (including Canada and Mexico) between September 1, 2016, and August 31, 2017. The Best American Essays Submissions for the 2018 volume: Writers and editors are welcome to submit published essays from any American periodical published in 2017 for consideration to: Robert Atwan The Best American Essays Houghton Mifflin Harcourt 125 High Street, 5 th floor Boston, MA 02110 Unpublished work does not qualify for the series and cannot be reviewed or evaluated. Also ineligible are essays that have been published in book form such as a contribution to a collection but have never appeared in a periodical. All submissions from print magazines must be directly from the publication and not in manuscript or printout format. Editors of online magazines and literary bloggers should not assume that appropriate work will be seen; they are invited to submit printed copies of the essays to the address above. Magazine editors who want to be sure their contributors will be considered each year should submit issues or subscriptions to that address, as well. Please note: Because of the increasing number of submissions from online sources, material that does not include a full citation (name of publication, date, author contact information, etc.) will no longer be considered. Eligibility for the 2018 volume: To qualify for the volume, the essay must be a work of respectable literary quality, intended as a fully developed, independent essay (not an excerpt) on a subject of general interest (not specialized scholarship), originally written in English (or translated by the author) for publication in an American periodical during the calendar year 2017. Note that abridgments and excerpts taken from longer works and published in magazines do not qualify for the series, but if considered significant they will appear in the Notable list in the back of the volume. Today s essay is a highly flexible and shifting form, however, so these criteria are not carved in stone.

The Best American Mystery Stories Submissions for the 2018 volume: Authors, editors, or any interested parties can send submissions to the following address by December 31, 2017: Otto Penzler The Mysterious Bookshop 58 Warren Street New York, NY 10007 The earlier submissions are received, the less hurriedly will they be read. The weeks directly before the deadline are ill-advised if the submission was published earlier in the year. If the story was first published online, only hard copies will be read; these must include the name of the source, the publication date, and contact information. Submitted material will not be returned. If you do not trust the U.S. Postal Service to deliver the book, magazine, or tearsheets, please enclose a self-addressed postcard to receive confirmation. Eligibility for the 2018 volume: To qualify, a story must be a mystery, must be written by an American or a Canadian, and must have had its first publication in the calendar year 2017 in an American or Canadian publication. No unpublished stories are eligible The Best American Science and Nature Writing Submissions for the 2018 volume: All submissions should be sent to the following address: Tim Folger Best American Science and Nature Writing 3617 Zia Drive Gallup, New Mexico 87301 Please include the entire publication, a tear sheet, or a high-quality photocopy of the original that clearly shows the author's name, the publication date, and the name of the publication. Web only publications can e-mail a link to the article or a pdf. Please also e-mail a pdf version if possible to tf@timfolger.net. All submissions must be received by the end of the first week of January 2018 at the very latest. The best way for publications to guarantee that all their articles are considered for inclusion in the anthology would be to place Tim Folger on their subscription list. Nominate favorites for next year s anthology at: http://timfolger.net/forums Writers are encouraged to submit their own stories. Eligibility for the 2018 volume: All submissions must follow a few ground rules: They must have been published in the United States during the 2017 calendar year and must be nonfiction articles about science or the environment. No poetry. Essays are also welcome. The articles can be from magazines, newspapers, or the Web.

The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy Submissions for the 2018 volume: If you are a writer and would like to submit your own short fiction for consideration directly, please send it via the submissions portal located at submissions.johnjosephadams.com/basff If editors/publishers want to submit complete magazine issues, anthologies, or collections that you edited or published please email johnjosephadams+basff@gmail.com. Eligibility for the 2018 volume: The stories chosen for this anthology must meet ALL of the following criteria: 1. The original publication of the story must be in a nationally distributed American or Canadian publication (i.e., periodicals, collections, or anthologies, in print, online, or ebook form); 2. The story must be written in English and written by a writer who is American or Canadian, or who has made the United States his or her home; 3. The story must be at least loosely categorized as science fiction or fantasy (horror is acceptable if it also has elements of science fiction or fantasy); 7. The story must be published by someone other than the author (i.e., self-published works are not eligible); 8. The story must be an original work of the author (i.e., not part of a media tie-in/licensed fiction program); 9. The story must have been originally published between January 1 and December 31 of the eligibility year (2017).
