NOTE: This Telect Workmanship Standard takes the place of Document T-011497. Older drawings may reference T-011497 for requirements. It is understood that this standard will be the current controlling document. As older documents are updated they will reference Conform to all Telect Workmanship Standards. ONLY APPROVED MATERIAL/COLOR MAY BE USED ON TELECT S PRODUCTS. ALL MATERIALS AND COATINGS FOR TELECT MUST BE RoHS COMPLIANT. 1.0 PURPOSE This document specifies the color, supplier identification, and description of materials used to manufacture products supplied to Telect. This document also defines the approval process for new color or batches and the handling of color standards. 2.0 SCOPE This document applies to machined, molded, painted, powder coated, pad-printed, and screen-printed products. 3.0 OWNER Quality Assurance 4.0 DEFINITIONS Master Chips: The original color, used to match all new working masters. Master chips should be stored in a cool dark location. Working Master Chips: Paint, powder coat, and ink color chips used by inspection and the suppliers to verify conformance. Working master chips are measured using a spectrophotometer and must measure under.5 deltae to the master chips. Product Management must approve any variations from the masters. These chips will be labeled for replacement within three years of issuance. See Section 6.0 for storage and handling of working master chips. Working Master Plastic: Working master chips are measured using a spectrophotometer and must measure under.5 deltae to the master chips. Product Management must approve any variations from the masters. Working master chips for plastic will be reviewed / replaced every two years. See Section 6.0 for storage and handling of working master chips. Page 1 of 10
Spectrophotometer: A piece of equipment that can measure the color spectrum difference between two samples. All new batches must be measured to the working master chips and must measure less than 1 Delta E. Coating Thickness Gage: Used to check conformance for coating thickness requirements. This is a recommended piece of equipment for inspection at Telect and the supplier site. Product Specification Sheet: A document that should contain, at a minimum, characteristics, specifications, application, and description of the product. New Material/Paint Color Form: Use this form to add a new paint color or material, new supplier, or to have a discontinued color become active. This form is located in Forms on Sharepoint.com. 5.0 PROCEDURE 5.1 New Telect Product Color 5.1.1 Only Product Management can approve a new product color. 5.1.2 Complete the first section of a New Material/Paint Color Form and route appropriately. 5.2 New Telect Product Material 5.2.1 Only Compliance and Mechanical Engineers may approve new material. 5.2.2 Complete the first section of a New Material/Paint Color Form and route appropriately. 5.3 New supplier for existing Telect color 5.3.1 Send the New Material/Paint Color Form and sample chips of the color to the Quality Assurance Engineer for conformance to the master paint chip. 5.3.2 Samples that do not meet the requirements will be sent back to the requester with an explanation for why it does not meet the standard. 5.3.3 Samples that are within conformance will be processed using the New Material/Paint Color Form. Page 2 of 10

5.4 Discontinued Color 5.4.1 Colors that have not been purchased within the last 3 years will be added to the discontinued list. 5.4.2 Discontinued colors can be activated using the New Material/Paint Color Form. 5.5 New Color Batches 5.5.1 Suppliers are responsible for ensuring that new batches meet the current color specifications. A sample may also be sent to Quality Assurance for approval prior to providing batches to suppliers. All new batches must be measured to the working master chips and must measure less than 1 Delta E. 5.5.2 Quality Assurance Engineer or Supervisor can approve samples. 6.0 STORAGE AND HANDLING OF WORKING CHIPS 6.1 Paint chips need to be stored in the original envelope provided by Telect. Paint chips should always be kept in a controlled area when not in use. Variations in temperatures should be avoided. 6.2 Always handle paint chips by the edges, avoid touching the color surface. If fingerprints appear, wipe with a damp cotton cloth. Do not use cleaning solutions on chips. 7.0 INSPECTION 7.1 Telect highly recommends having a Coating Thickness Gage and Light Booth for verifying correct color and texture. 7.2 Inspection for color needs to be performed under cool white florescent light, without shadowing. Parts will be held approximately 18 away for 5 seconds. Page 4 of 10
