WELCOME TO ECACON2018 The unique world of Event Cinema, a joyous and entirely unpredictable outcome of digitisation, remains constant. Box office is steady, audiences loyal, its providers are a slick, strong, international community who understand the risks of this business but stay committed anyway, sure in the knowledge that they are offering something rare and valuable, a true shared experience that can t be replicated on a laptop, a smart TV or a tablet. Michelle Stevens of CinEvents explained recently in a brilliant article that the collective joy that cinema brings to audiences is precious and no matter what technological advancements are made, people just like being together. It s a simple but universal truth and is why ECACON works. Our collective experience now a decade in is huge, and the expertise in a room of likeminded professionals can t be underestimated. Networking in such a bespoke environment is very powerful and it s a privilege to offer our delegates opportunity for real learning. Expand your minds today by highlighting how Event Cinema works in various regions France, North America and for the first time speakers from Australia and the Middle East. The power of Event Cinema continues to grow; in the last month alone the ECA has had membership enquiries from Beijing, Shanghai, Recife, Sao Paulo, Lima, Chennai, Kolkata, Jakarta and Paris, not to mention the UK. Next year we may need a bigger boat. Our experts from UK distribution and exhibition are examining where the industry is in 2018 and what the future holds. Celebrating the success of our members hard work is the Encompass Box Office Awards later in the day. Do visit the companies putting on ECA Surgeries in the network and lunch time break they are offering business advice for free! I hope that you will find today informative and uplifting and we would like to thank all our speakers and our very generous sponsors who have once again made this day possible. I hope that you will join me after 6pm at All Bar One to enjoy a drink and unwind with the best in the business. Thank you for supporting the Event Cinema Association. Melissa Cogavin (Managing Director ECA) MELISSA COGAVIN MANAGING DIRECTOR EVENT CINEMA ASSOCIATION Melissa has been in the distribution industry in the UK for 19 years - 7 years at Disney, and 3 years as Director of Film Operations at Paramount Pictures. Melissa was named in the Top 50 Global Women in Cinema in 2017. She writes regularly for Digital Cinema Report and Cinema Technology Magazine.
