Its main seat will be Auditorio Juan Victoria, situated at Avenida 25 de Mayo 1215 oeste (San Juan) Other concerts will be performed in churches, museums and other cultural venues. It will be done in two categories a) Universal choral repertoire. Open to amateur mixed choirs, female, male, youth and chamber groups (minimum 16 singers). b) Popular, folk and/or traditional choral music. Open to amateur mixed choirs, female, male, youth and chamber groups (minimum 12 singers). Participants can choose one or another category, or compete in both. REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS Category Universal choral repertoire: Each choir has to perform at least four compositions: - three contrasting works of different styles and periods at the choice of the conductor (i.e.: Baroque, Romantic, Contemporary or others) - and at least one composition or arrangement by an author of the country the choir comes from. Traditional/folk instruments are admitted for accompaniment. The use of traditional or folk clothing of each country is welcome. Category Popular, folk and/or traditional choral music: It must contain at least four works freely chosen by the conductor among the popular, folkloric and/or traditional repertoire (original compositions and/or choral arrangements) Traditional/folk instruments are admitted for accompaniment. The use of traditional or folk clothing of each country is welcome. MANDATORY WORK (Out of competition): all choirs (in Festival, Competitions and Grand Prix) must participate in the Closing Concert performing Gustav Holst s Psalm 148. The work must be studied deeply in advance, will be pre-rehearsed and will be performed as the closing work of SAN JUAN CANTA under the direction of a prestigious guest conductor. Any doubt about these requirements will be answered by the previous consultation with the Chairman of the Artistic Committee Prof. María Elina Mayorga (sanjuancanta@gmail.com) or will be resolved by the Jury. The decision will be final. ABOUT THE COMPETITION: The Competition will be held in a single event at Auditorio Juan Victoria - Saturday, August 18th, 8.30 pm: category Universal choral repertoire - Sunday, August 19th, 11.30 am: category Popular, folk and/or traditional choral music In both of the categories: - the total duration of the audition will be at least 18 minutes and a maximum of 20 minutes, net time of the stage (counting from the beginning of the first piece to the end of the last one);!1

- the time of performance will not be interrupted by applause; - in case of free time after fulfilling the requirements of repertoire, it can be completed with works freely chosen by the director within the same framework of requirements for each category; - the repertoire cannot be replaced after July 15th; - only a cappella works, or with piano/organ accompaniment will be accepted. Other instruments will not be admitted except for those of folk and/or popular roots required for the interpretation of the works; - the scores must be in the key in which they will be interpreted and the works will be sung in their original language; - choirs must use legal copies of their scores; - amplification and encores are not allowed; - at the time of accreditation (on Thursday, August 16th, at 12.00pm in the classroom 10 of Auditorio Juan Victoria), each choir will deliver to the Jury seven (7) bound and sorted copies of the entire repertoire. ADMISSION: The Artistic Committee will select the choirs that will participate in the Competition based on the documentation and demos received. Choirs will be notified of the result of the selection by May 30th. The Artistic Committee and the President of the Jury will supervise the fulfillment of the requirements by the applicants. The list of choirs that will participate will be informed by email to the applicants and publicly broadcasted through the press and via internet. ABOUT THE JURY AND EVALUATION CRITERIA: SAN JUAN CANTA will be entirely supervised by the President of the Artistic Committee Prof. María Elina Mayorga. The choirs will be evaluated with a score of up to 10 points maximum (it is admitted up to a decimal: for example, 9.5, but not 9.75). In case a choir exceeds the time limit for more than 30 seconds, each extra minute will mean one less point in the score. The same rule will apply for each minute less than the minimum required performance time. The evaluation of the Jury will especially address the following criteria: a) technical performance: intonation, rhythm, phrasing, accuracy to score and pronunciation. b) artistic performance: tempo, agogic, dynamic flexibility, text interpretation, style, choral sound quality, balance, repertoire selection criteria and level of difficulty, comprehension of the meaning of the text and its emotions.
