! JEFF JUSTICE SEMINARS Proudly Presents PEAK PERFORMANCE UNDER PRESSURE by Anita Paul Johnston CSR-CCR-CRR-CRI-CPE-CBC-CCP-CSP

Three Essential Strategies For Mastery Under Stress 1. Amazing and effective P 2. Control and generating E and E C 3. Thinking and operating in the P GREAT Preparation? You ve been practicing, rehearsing, preparing, and you now feel very qualified to do a great job, pass that test, ace the performance, presentation, interview. About two minutes into the event, you realize you re nailing it! Your thoughts slightly jar you from a steady stream of consciousness, and BOOM! You C. At that point you forgot what you were going to say, your performance faltered, you dropped and failed your test. You feel as though you blew it. What happened P, E, and M?

Creative Thought Control Humor Laughter is the greatest weapon that we as humans have, and it s the one we use the least. Mark Twain All great philosophers have studied and embraced the effects of humor on the quality of our lives. Humor is the ability to create a sense of fun and play from within. We re not talking about stand-up comics. Concentrating on a problem or a stress by focusing on fun can disarm the heaviness, the anxiety and shift the experience to a giggle and amazing results! When you re in the state of fun, good things are better and bad things are not so bad. Steve Martin laughs every morning for four minutes, just laughs! Creativity and humor can lower your blood pressure lower your pulse rate triggers your ideal performance space reduces stress improves diaphragmatic breathing (loud laughing) increases creativity reduces defensiveness improves communications improves relationships improves concentration accesses more energy gives you the feeling of power. Humor is power. energy recovery (breaks cycles of stress) raises spirits, feels good, hearty laugh Yes, we can let go with all the stress and simply have fun! It s vital to keep the humor positive and never at the expense of another.

!! Reducing / Eliminating CHOKING Under Pressure by Mastering Energy and Emotions 1. HIGH POSITIVE ENERGY - the fuel, the magic to create mental toughness. Positive energy or positive stress enhances and facilitates your experiences. Excited, enthusiastic, passionate, vigorous, energetic, cooperative, effervescent 2. LOW POSITIVE ENERGY - the vital and necessary rest, recuperation stage. You feel relaxed, peaceful, meditative, calm, with low motivation. Tired, want to rest, recuperate, calm, unwind, relax, little desire 3. LOW NEGATIVE ENERGY - Feeling lethargic and just don t care, feel like quitting, debilitates you so you can t achieve anywhere near your potential. Depressed, disinterested, irritated, burned out, miserable, bored, low (see what happens when you don t allow the LOW POSITIVE ENERGY to assist in a natural rejuvenation process?) 4. HIGH NEGATIVE ENERGY - Feeling

of great anger, furious reaction to a situation, fly off the handle, out of control. Frustrated, agitated, resentful, anxious, fearful, upset, furious, boiling mad, hateful We can choose the energy zone we operate in by being conscious of our choices. The Four Energy Zones HIGH POSITIVE! HIGH NEGATIVE enthusiasm excitement challenges, not problems inspiring *focus on the PRESENT in control focused visualize excellence; visionary laughter, joy coordinated energized appropriate responses to situations welcome challenge calm, can-do angry furious tense disgust anger, no joy must-do vengeance have to prove something with the performance * focus on PAST or FUTURE victim seek revenge temper choke under pressure LOW POSITIVE! relaxed sleepy, weary low motivation lack of energy or tension avoidance: maybe it ll go away placid humor pleasure serene ease-off no drive resting peacefully unhurried calm easygoing LOW NEGATIVE bored uninterested annoyed, irritated tension without energy depressed burned out overwhelmed feeling hopeless lost passion don t care, lethargic afraid overtired powerless victimized can t handle problems (challenges)

2 Secrets Olympic Champions Embrace Which affirmation appeals to you? 1. I write my best when I write my test. 2. My fingers write with ease and excellence. 3. I take deep breaths slowly and my fingers move in perfect synchronicity. 4. I am an excellent writer and I am calmly passing my. 5. I am writing my test with sharpness, joy, excellence, and calm. 6. I create focused accurate writing on tests and at all other times. 7. I envision and mentally rehearse excellent writing on tests. 8. I have the capacity to visualize and control my emotions and feelings during tests. 9. I redirect my fear to excitement. 10. I choose to be responsible for my experiences. 11. I m an energized champion and I conquer EVERY obstacle. Write your own.

Mental Rehearsal; Visualizations See, imagine, feel, taste, smell, sense, hear exactly the scenario you choose to happen. Set the stage and continue to create a daydream with emotions that ultimately becomes your reality. The C N S doesn t know the difference between reality and an imagined story. Recall a profound moment of great joy; imagine how it felt. Get in touch with those emotions; recreate your finest hour -- your white moment. You can create the future now. The connection of an image and emotions is far more significant than just words. Being able to create images with emotion is an acquired skill that takes practice. It is said that the greatest athletes, the greatest leaders in all professions, are great visionaries, yet everyone has the ability to be a great visionary. The mind does not distinguish between reality and what you think to be true. Desensitize yourself to all possible negative scenarios and operate in the moment; focus on the PROCESS. Take the worst case scenario and blow it out of your mind.

The One Easy Transformational Technique EFT

Creating Mastery of Test Joy Call to Action 1. Put yourself on a committed practice schedule four months in advance. 2. Conquer difficult words or phrases by spending great time working them out. 3. Insert new or difficult words or briefs in an article perhaps 100 times. 4. Drop long words if you are not positive how they will translate. 5. Don t do too much practice or warm-up on test day. Conserve your strength. 6. Shift your focus from end results to the PROCESS; stay in the moment. 7. Take care of your body by eating right, exercising, relaxing and having fun! 8. Develop a rigorous awareness of your conversation and your self talk. Interrupt old thinking and phrases you might revert back to and tell yourself that that s no longer a part of you; it s unacceptable and no longer an option. Change your conversation; change your life.

About Anita Anita Paul Johnston, CSR-CCR-CRR-CRI-CPE-CBC-CCP-CSP Anita has been a certified court reporter since 1974, serving as an official in the Los Angeles municipal and superior courts for over 17 years and as a freelancer since 1992. Teaching at court reporting night schools for about 12 years fulfilled her love of teaching. In 1991, she was instrumental in creating the first complete CIC courtroom in the state of California, including video synchronization, wherein she reported back-to-back realtime dailies with her partner for a year-and-a-half, networked to 11 computers. Anita went through the process of transforming her own writing skills and gave numerous presentations and trainings to fellow court reporters for two years. In 1992, she combined her experiences and expertise with extensive realtime theory research and created her own company, Anita Paul Realtime Seminars and Workshops, a subsidiary of Anita Paul International. Her training company presents inspirational and content-driven realtime workshops, seminars, keynotes, peak performance strategies, and attorney presentations worldwide, including almost every state in America, England, British Isles, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Mexico, Canada, Rwanda, Hong Kong, Trinidad, the Bahamas, and the Virgin Islands. Anita has successfully presented at numerous NCRA and state conventions, and has done extensive trainings for local, statewide and national, and international government agencies. Anita has written books, produced numerous tape and CD training series, and has expanded her realtime workshops to include seminars on advancing technologies, transition to C.A.R.T. and Broadcast Captioning, and a dynamic seminar for attorneys on creating an effective record.
