Volume 1, Issue 2 April 5, 2012 Cupcakes made just for Easter By: Jenna S. These special Easter basket cupcakes are great for celebrating the Easter holiday. These cupcakes taste and look great. This cupcake recipe came from The Big Book Of Cupcakes by Betty Crocker. The cupcakes will take approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes to prep, and 2 hours and 10 minutes from finish to start. First, you need to make the cupcakes. The recipe calls for yellow cupcakes but you can substitute yellow cupcakes for any other kind. You can use a cake mix bought from the store or you can make it from scratch (this article will show you how to make the cupcake mix from scratch). Here are the ingredients you will need to make the cupcakes. Above is a picture of how the Easter basket cupcakes should turn out. (continued on page 2) Bully-cide By Oryein M. Bullying. It takes many forms, and takes many victims, but a great amount fail to see it. Did you know Hawaii has the highest suicide rate in the nation? 2011 research shows that 12.8% of Hawaii's teens attempt suicide; that's almost double the average American rate. Which brings us to "Bully-cide," the 3 rd most common killer of teens. Bully-cide is suicide caused by bullying, although bullying happens around the clock, no one seems to be paying much attention because the "victims" tend not to tell anyone. Kids are bullied in different ways: cyber, verbally, physically, emotionally, you name it, kids have suffered through it. No doubt you've seen a video or two about bullying that shows stories of kids being bullied for years, but they decided they couldn't take it anymore and thought the only way out is to take their own life. The worst part is, the bullies don't even regret what they've done, or they don't think it's their fault. Millions of kids and teens are going through this everyday, and they feel small, helpless, like they have no one to depend on. Or, they're afraid of what people will say if they tell anyone. So they feel the need to keep it to themselves until it all bottles up inside, this is the worst possible thing you could do. If you're being bullied or hurt, tell an adult immediately; a teacher or counselor, or most importantly your parents. And to all the bullies out there, remember: there's a thin line between words and wounds, you'll never know whose heart you'll stop Yellow Blazer Advert 1

Astronomy-The Study of the Stars By Katie O. Astronomy; it's one of those things that never stop changing. Our universe is expanding. It has been for billions of years. Along with other universes we have yet to discover, Full of stars and planets and other amazing celestial bodies. We aren't out here alone. There's a lot more to see by our astronomers today. That's what makes the study so astounding. From planets to stars to black holes, from dwarf planets and red giants and nebulae, to galaxies and universes and quasars and pulsars and much, much more that people have only begun to understand. An astronomer's job is to discover these things and how the affect the universes and the other universes around them. Are there other planets with living things or sustainable conditions? Are there aliens somewhere out there? Are there really other universes, and maybe planets just like Earth? That's what they want to know. Places that might have extraterrestrial life are Venus, Mars, Jupiter's moon; Europa, And Saturn's moons; Titan and Enceladus. There have also been signs of life on other bodies in the solar system; like comets. Scientists have been sending out probes with information about Earth. Like the sounds and samples of things like dirt, plants, and sometimes even blood. And there might be life beyond the solar system. Who knows? Astronomers have found planets that closely resemble Earth hundreds of light years away. You've probably heard of theories of life in different galaxies and systems and universes. Maybe there are people just like us in another universe. Or maybe I've watched too many time travel shows. Editorial: Too Much Status Quo in Mililani Middle By: Michaela B. Everyday I stroll the side walks of Mililani Middle, I am disgusted to see kids sticking to the status quo. Popular kids on one bench, smart kids on there own table, it makes me sick. I believe that kids at this school are afraid to be their self. An original. They know that once they stop meeting the requirements of their clique, then their out. You know the saying, "Opposites attract"? Well it's wrong. Well no. I take that back. It's supposed to work. But when your going to such a stereotypical school like Mililani Middle, how could it work. Right? You can't be yourself at this school. You can't even talk to someone who is different without being judged. Do you play sports? Do stupid things like drinking and drugs? As it just so happens, are you also good-looking? Well then congratulations. You're popular. Most popular kids at this school meets ALL of these requirements. If you're an original, some one who is different from everyone else, than sorry no one likes you. Wearing different clothes and shoes? Doing what you want instead of what everyone else does? Not being like everyone else? Big nono. Unless you wear flannels and snap backs, short skirts and blouses, well then you're probably a no one. Don't get me wrong, be yourself, and you're an okay kid to me. But to all you followers and so called "Populars", get a life. Be yourself. I myself was lucky enough to find a group of gorgeous, original friends. But do you realize that not every one is that lucky. By the way, hang out with who you want to hang out with. Not with who you match with. Popular kids owning there own bench, Smart kids grabbing their own tables at lunch, true originals being a loner.. Think of it. What kind of sick school is this? Lets all do our best to break the status quo. Be yourself. An original is always worth more than a copy. Imangi Studio s Revolutionary Endless Running Game By Julia K. By Katie O. Books To Read Looking for a book to read? Whether avid reader or want to have better literary skills? From adventure to mystery to fantasy to sci-fi to drama, these books are sure to give you different views on different parts of life. Maybe teach you a thing or two. The Hunger Games You've probably heard about the movie releasing on March 23 rd, and if the movie is even as half as good as the book, it'll be the next Titanic. With the best combination of adventure, sci-fi, and emotion possible, the Hunger Games series by Suzanne Colins is certainly a series to remember. Harry Potter Unless you've been living under a rock this past decade and a half, you've heard of Harry Potter. Maybe have seen a movie or read one of the books? Lemme tell you, the hype for this series isn't for nothing. The Hobbit In preparation of the movie releasing in December 2012, I recommend this book wholeheartedly. This prequel to the Lord of the Rings series (Which you should also read.) is pretty cool. Full of mythical adventures and humor, this should definitely be on your to read list. A Series of Unfortunate Events Though a little depressing, (Or a lot.) this series is very well written and no matter how sad, is sure to give you some new perspectives. This series by Lemony Snicket is full of adventure and irony. One of the best types of books there are. Sherlock Holmes These individual stories of a detective and his companion are sure to give you a laugh or two. Full of mystery and 19 th century style writing, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has successfully filled the covers of his books with enough memorable stories to last a lifetime. Now what? Pick up one of these books and start reading! It won't hurt. By: Sharon S. Doodling The common thing to do during a boring meeting or lecture is to take notes. Even though the gathering is draining the happiness out of you, the content is still very important. Stereotypically in the margins of your notebook, the scribbling comes out to dominate your mind and the authority in your presence. Why do people doodle? It seems like a very simple question, but in reality it is a very complicated topic to discuss about. The definition, though, seems very simple in realistic terms: According to Scholastic Dictionary, to draw absentmindedly while you are concentrating on something else. So, from this explanation people were asked what do you think doodling is? Their responses were: Expressing your feelings emotions and brain Drawing random stuff when you want to A symbol of boredom Drawing whatever you want to draw. An expression of your subconscious mind Life (continued on page 6) Yellow Blazer Advert 5

Doodling (continued from p.5) Generally everyone s doodles must be different because all of the responses are different. Doodle psychology states that the location of the doodle on the page is significant to finding what the doodler is thinking or feeling. According to TIME Magazine, doodling, in contrast, requires very few executive resources but just enough cognitive effort to keep you from daydreaming, which if unchecked-will jump-start activity in cortical networks that will keep you from remembering what s going on. Doodling forces your brain to expend just enough energy to stop it from daydreaming but not so much that you don t pay attention. Doodling reduces daydreaming in situations where daydreaming might harm performance more than scribbling on a piece of paper, says Jackie Andrade, a psychology professor at the University of Plymouth in England. Doodling helps the mind to focus and expand boundaries of imagination and creativity. But, there is always a time and place to explore your subconscious mind. Steven P. Jobs By Julia K. Former CEO and chairman of Apple passed away on October 5 th 2011, at the age of 56. He was fighting pancreatic cancer for several years and he passed away due to the result of respiratory arrest. Jobs brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enriched all our lives. He was born on February 24 th 1955 in San Francisco, California and he grew up in Cupertino. His unwed biological parents put him up for adoption. Steve was adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs. His father was an engineer, so he was allowed to explore and imagine, and think of different ideas as a child. He attended Oregon Reed College, but he dropped after only one semester. He was more interested in eastern philosophy, fruitarian diets, and LSD than the classes he took. He moved to a hippie commune in Oregon where his main activity was growing apples. A few months later, Steve returned to California to look for a job. He was hired as a young video game maker and used his wages to make a trip with one of his friends to India to seek enlightenment. That was when his interest in the Buddhism religion started. Then as his days in California progressed, Apple had begun- in a garage with three men in their twenties: Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne. Their partnership gave way to a huge computer company. Steve Jobs had countless ideas and inventions, but out of them all, there were ten that made the world so much better: 10. USB Power Adapter: Steve made an adapter that can have the same charging function of a PC. 9. NeXT Computer: This was an invention that proved to Apple that he could do so much even though Apple ditched him. 8. Pixar Animation Studios: Pixar was born when Jobs left Apple in 1986. 7. Macintosh: It was the computer that pioneered the path to what is being adapted in the modern day, operated by a mouse and using graphics user interface instead of a command line interface that is found in MS-DOS. Right now, we are enjoying imacs and MacBooks coming from the early masterpiece. 6. itunes Music Store: Steve Jobs made a way for customers to enjoy their downloaded music while assuring that artists are paid for the music they made. The itunes store sold music for $0.99 each and has a complex security system that cannot be hacked for stealing music. 5. Mac OS X: The reign of Apple s powerful computer operating system was developed greatly, thanks to the OpenStep system found in NeXTSTEP, as Steve Jobs created the company when he left Apple in 1985. The existing Mac was combined with a different system, making the Mac OS adaptable to home and professional use. 4. ipod: This was a creation that steve thought of to help people listen to as much music as they like, without having to worry about the size and weight of the device. 3. ipad: Steve Jobs was at it again, innovating something new that others find hard to imitate. He made the iphone grow bigger and become better. 2. iphone: It was a device that brought internet and gaming to a whole new level. It is, and it may be the best portable mobile device to do pretty much of everything from video, to audio, to gaming, and even social networking. 1. Apple: This company still rocks with the gadgets and technologies that others find challenging to mimic or overthrow. The man in the black turtle neck and faded blue jeans knew how to live life to the fullest. (Special Thanks To: www.latesttopten.com) Yellow Blazer Advert 6
