Installation Instructions 1. Find a safe and convenient location for the KD-CAT5XST unit. Before permanently securing the unit or final installation of cabling behind walls or ceilings, test for proper operation of the unit and the cables in your system. 2. Connect your audio source to the audio ports of the KD-CAT5XST intended as the transmitting device. Please note that each KD-CAT5XST unit can be used as either the transmitting or receiving device. Therefore, it makes no difference in the order in which they are connected. Additionally, any FatCAT Series unit (whether RCA, BNC connector, ST or Wall Plate version) is interchangeable and can be used with any other FatCAT version. 3. Connect one end of your CAT5 cable to the CAT5 port of the KD-CAT5XST intended as the transmitting device and the other end of your CAT5 cable to the CAT5 port of the KD-CAT5XST intended as the receiving device. Use standard CAT5/6 cable for interconnectivity between each set of FatCAT devices. 4. Connect the audio ports of the KD-CAT5XST unit intended as the receiving device to the audio inputs of your receiving device (A/V receiver, TV, etc ). CAT5 cables must be terminated in accordance with TIA/EIA-568-A or TIA/EIA-568-B pin-pair assignments. Additional Installation Tips The FatCAT is incredibly flexible in its possible uses. In addition to the standard setup as an analog/digital audio or H/V Sync extender balun, the unit can also be used for other signals. The following signals are all supported on any FatCAT port, regardless of the silk screened labels on the case. Analog Audio Signals (line level) H and V Sync Signals Composite Video Signals PCM Digital Audio Signals Composite Sync Signals Serial control signals (bi-directional) such as RS232 and wired IR S-Video Signals (with appropriate S-video to composite adapter) With the above information in mind, you can see how the additional setup options below make the FatCAT a powerful and useful tool in any installation*. Example One Four FatCAT Setup (see next page) (Two KD-CAT5XRCA to support Component Video and PCM Digital audio and two KD-CAT5XST to support L/R Analog Audio). In this case, we can use two FatCAT units to transmit component video and PCM digital audio signals in addition to left and right line level analog audio signals over CAT5. To do so: 1. Connect component cables to corresponding ports labeled R, G, and B on the KD-CAT5XRCA. 2. Connect PCM digital audio cable to the port labeled PCM/CV on the first KD- CAT5XRCA. 3. Connect left analog audio signal to the port labeled L/H on the KD-CAT5XST. 4. Connect right analog audio signal to the port labeled R/V on the KD-CAT5XST. Use two additional FatCAT units to receive the two CAT 5 cables from the transmitting units above. * Note that this is just one example of the many different possible configurations. If you keep in mind that inputs and outputs should be one-to-one (that is, the signal feeding a specified port on the transmitting FatCAT can be output on the corresponding port on the receiving FatCAT) then there are many uses for multiple FatCAT setups with the formats mentioned above. Replace audio cables, check physical connections on all equipment and cables in the system. Audio sounds distorted or noisy CAT5 cable length may be too long. Try shortening the CAT5 cable. Audio drops in/out in intervals PCM digital audio signals should run reliably up to 500 feet. If audio drops out at lengths above this, try a shorter CAT5 cable length. 4 Blue 5 White/Blue 6 Orange 7 White/Brown 8 Brown 7/17/07 3:57:46 PM
