Controller, Used with 150 Watt Supply to Control RGB Flexible Strips (LED Red-Green-Blue Ribbon and 150 Watt Power Supply Sold Separately) Controller (with 60 Watt Driver and Red-Green-Blue LED Strip, Sold Separately) The PMRC Programmable Controller is an easy-to-use, powerful controller you can use with 4- wire Red-Green-Blue 12 or 24 volt DC LED strips or other LEDs. The controller unit has a program display, and the unit can be used to write your own program for your lights. Your program is stored as mode 10, and can be selected from the remote control. You can use our universal power supplies on 100-240 Volts AC, 50 or 60 Hz, to generate 12 or 24 Volts DC to operate the controller just about anywhere in the world. We designed this controller based on requests from many customers who asked for a simple controller that would enable them to mix their own custom colors, and program variable hold and Copyright EnvironmentalLights.com 2 All Rights Reserved 10/10/14

fade times. People also wanted to be able to dim or brighten their lights easily. They also asked for longer cycle times on the standard color changing programs (step and fade) than are available on other controllers. The EnviroLED PMRC from EnvironmentalLights.com achieves all of that. Now, it includes a handsome decora-style wall mount control at no extra charge. Fits a standard gang-box, but uses radio frequency signals to communicate with the controller, so you don t need to wire it to anything. The RF remote control has a range of over 100 feet and works through walls. It has a slotted hole on the back so you can hang it on a nail. You may also use the included Velcro to mount the controller unit or the remote control. Though the controller is rated at 150 watts peak power (using the 150 watt supply,) we recommend designing at 80 watts to provide conservative design margin. The worst case condition is sustained white (red, green and blue on full power, with no color changing.) If you drive it at a steady 150 watts, it may get too warm. Our regular density RGB LED strip uses up to 30 watts per 5 meter reel and the double density RGB uses up to 50 watts per 5 meter reel. Therefore, you can control 2.7 reels of regular density RGB LED strip or 1.6 reels of double density LED strip. Extend your installation almost without limits using amplifiers, also called boosters or repeaters. Amplifiers require their own power supplies (drivers.) They work with 12 or 24 volt drivers. With these amplifiers as building blocks, you can build an installation that is very large. Refer to the diagrams at the end and contact us if you are unsure how to engineer the system. This is how we get the big jobs done. RGBX Repeater-Studio 4-Channel - 12 or 24 VDC AMP4 Copyright EnvironmentalLights.com 3 All Rights Reserved 10/10/14

Features Easy to program up to 20 steps. Choose from 16 million colors. Set the hold time for each custom color. Set the fade time for the transition to the next step. Program automatically re-starts upon completion for seamless operation. Each of the 20 steps has 5 parameters: 1. Red value (0 to 255) 2. Green value (0 to 255) 3. Blue value (0 to 255) 4. Hold time (0 seconds to 2 hours) 5. Fade time to next step (0 seconds to 2 hours) Informative backlit LCD display tells you what s going on in dark or light ambient conditions. Compact 4.1 x 2.4 x 1 controller is easy to mount using included Velcro. Even more compact 3.6" x 1.5" x 0.65" remote control (excluding 5.25" antenna) with slotted hole on back to hang it on the wall. Also can be secured with included Velcro. Handsome Decora wall mount remote control fits standard gang boxes. No wiring required-just screw it on to the gang box. Screwless cover plate clips on to hide screws. Radio frequency remote controls (hand-held and wall mount) both work through walls. Over 100 foot range in benign electromagnetic environment. 7 static modes, 2 color-changing patterns and 1 user-programmable mode, selected by MODE button on remote control. Speed control buttons "S+" and "S-" on remote control. Brightness control buttons "B+" and "B-" on remote control. ON/OFF button. Unit powers up in the mode it was set on when you turned it off, which is convenient. 3 signal outputs: Red, Green, Blue + Common anode (DC+12 or 24). 12 or 24 Volt DC input is required. Use a high quality regulated driver. The controller, if paired with our 60 watt 12 volt adapter and power cord, will operate 1.6 5-meter reels of our regular density RGB ribbon (150 LEDs per reel,) or 1.2 5-meter reels of our double density RGB ribbon (300 LEDs per reel,) or 6 of our 30 LED Rigid RGB strips. That load may use up to about 48 watts, and includes some margin for safety in both the power supply and ribbon flex power ratings. Using our 150 W 12 V power supply, this controller operates 2.7 regular density LED reels, 2 double density reels, or 11 rigid strips. You can increase the number of LEDs you can drive by adding one or more amplifiers. -4 to 140 F operating temperature range. 1 year manufacturer warranty. Operation Use 12 VDC or 24 VDC, depending on your lights. Controller accepts either, and generates the voltage you apply at the outputs. Remote Control If the controller is in Pause mode, the remote control will not operate. Press the PLAY/PAUSE button on the controller to put it in Play mode, enabling the remote control. Each remote control (hand-held or wall-mount) has a programmed code that must match the programmed code of the controller. If you buy more than one controller, remember not to mix up the remote controls and controllers. The codes are not user-modifiable. On the remote control, the ON/OFF button turns the lights on or off. The MODE button selects from 10 modes. The controller displays the mode name. Mode 1. White 2. Red 3. Green 4. Blue 5. Cyan (Green + Blue) 6. Magenta (Red + Blue) 7. Yellow (Red + Green) 8. Step Change mode (white, red, green, yellow, blue, magenta, cyan, white ) 9. Fade Change mode (white, red, yellow, green, cyan, blue, magenta, white ) 10. DIY Program (your own Do-It-Yourself program) The program will execute from the beginning of the next step. If the program was interrupted at step 5, it will re-commence at step 6. The B- and B+ buttons allow you to change the Brightness in modes 1 through 9. B- dims. B+ brightens. The B buttons are ignored in mode 10. There are 10 brightness levels: Brightness 255 100% 225 88% 200 78% 175 69% 150 59% 125 49% 100 39% 75 29% 50 20% 25 10% Copyright EnvironmentalLights.com 6 All Rights Reserved 10/10/14

The S- and S+ buttons allow you to change the speed in modes 8 and 9. The S buttons are ignored in the other modes. Controller Unit Speed Cycle Time 0 1 hour 1 30 minutes 2 15 minutes 3 5 minutes 4 2 minutes 5 1 minute 6 30 seconds 7 15 seconds 8 10 seconds 9 5 seconds You can write a program to control the exact color of your lights (16 million choices,) how long each color is held and the fade (transition) time to the next color. Each color can be specified by mixing the primary colors of light (red, green and blue), on a scale from 0 to 255. While you are programming the controller, the lights will show the color you are generating. This makes it very easy to dial in the exact color you want. If you want to increase the blue component, you can select the BLUE parameter and press + or to increase or decrease the blue. You ll see the effect on your lights immediately. The controller will accept programs up to 20 steps long. In this mode the buttons on the controller work, but the remote control buttons do not. When you are done programming, press PLAY/PAUSE again to enter play mode. In this mode, the buttons on the remote control work but the buttons on the controller (except PLAY/PAUSE) are ignored. Copyright EnvironmentalLights.com 7 All Rights Reserved 10/10/14

We suggest you write down your program on the spreadsheet at the end of this note. The fastest, easiest way to program the controller is by column, entering the red values for each step first, then the green, blue, hold and change times. Here is an example of a program we created: Parameter Red Green Blue Hold Change total cycle (duration) (transition) time* Range> 0-255 0-255 0-255 0s-2hr 0s-2hr Step H:MM:SS H:MM:SS H:MM:SS Comment 1 100 100 100 0:00:01 0:00:15 --Σ--> White (R, G and B equal,) at 39% brightness (100/255.) Hold for 15 seconds. 8 second transition to step 8. 8 255 255 255 1:00:00 0:00:00 White (R, G and B equal,) at 100% brightness (255/255.) Hold for 1 hour. 9 255 255 255 0:15:00 0:00:01 Hold white, full brightness, for another 15 minutes and use a 1 second fade to black (step 10.) 10 0 0 0 0:00:04 0:00:02 Dark for 4 seconds. 2 second transition back to step 1, 39% brightness white. * Total cycle time is the sum of the "Hold" and "Transition" times for all steps Features demonstrated in the above sample program: 1. You can mix your own colors. For example, in step 5, we make a salmon (peach) color from 5 parts red and 1 part yellow. In step 7, we make light purple from blue and red. To make it redder, increase the red. To make it brighter, increase both red and blue. To make white, set red, green and blue to be equal. To mix a softer white, you can use about 20 parts red to 10 parts green to 1 part blue, as in step 6. 2. You can set the brightness. In step 1, we use white at about 39% brightness, whereas in step 8, we use 100% brightness. You may set the hold or dwell time for each step. Hold time is how long the controller will stay on that step s color. While you have 17 discrete time values to choose from, you may achieve other time periods by combining steps. For example, to hold white at full brightness for 1 hour and 15 minutes, we combine 1 hour in step 8 with 15 minutes in step 9. 3. You may set the change ( transition or fade ) time for each step. The controller will fade from the current step to the next step over that period of time. 4. The total program time ( cycle time ) is just the sum of the hold and change times. In this case, it is 1 hour, 21 minutes and 36 seconds. Times are approximate, under semiconductor, not quartz, control. Copyright EnvironmentalLights.com 8 All Rights Reserved 10/10/14

Controller Unit Button Functions PLAY/PAUSE. In PLAY mode, the remote control is in command and the controller unit buttons (other than PLAY/PAUSE,) are ignored. Press PLAY/PAUSE to enter pause (Program) mode. INSERT. Inserts a step in your program after the current step. For example, if you are on step 4 of 5 (04/05,) and you press INSERT, it will insert a new step 05/06 with default parameter values of Red = 0, Green = 0, Blue = 0, Hold = 1s and Change = 1s. INSERT does nothing when you are on the last step. Use ADD instead. DELETE. Deletes the current step. ADD. Adds a step to your program. It only works when you are on the last step. To insert a step earlier in the program, use INSERT. STEP. UP or DOWN. Steps up or down through your program, so you can view and change your program. PARA (Parameter). Steps through the parameters of each step. Press the PARA down button to step through RED, GREEN, BLUE, HOLD and CHANGE. VALUE. Press + or to increase or decrease the value of the parameter by one increment. If you hold + or down, it will move quickly. For RED, GREEN and BLUE parameters, the values are brightness between 0 and 255. For HOLD and CHANGE parameters, the values are the time periods below. To achieve hold times different from these values, you can simply write successive steps with the required total hold time. This equipment, like all electrical equipment, should be installed by a qualified person. 2. Do not expose these LEDs, dimmers or power supplies to intense electro-magnetic fields, including lightning. 3. The controllers and power supplies are not waterproof. Keep them dry. 4. Always observe proper polarity. When installing LED lighting, it is a good idea to follow this dry-run procedure: 1. Be sure you have everything you need before you start. 2. Lay out your lights and power supply on the floor or table. 3. There is some resistance in the LED lighting. If you see any color fading or dimming at the end of a long run, you may have too many LEDs for your power supply and you might need a bigger supply or shorter runs. Use a bus structure as described in rgb_manual.pdf. Call if you need assistance with larger projects. 4. Connect everything and test it to be sure it works and you have it connected properly. It is unlikely, but possible, that some part of your system is defective or was damaged during shipment. If that is the case, it will be very helpful to you to know that before you do all the work involved in installing custom LED lighting systems. You will also know if you damage anything during installation, which is really helpful in trouble-shooting because manufacturing defects and installation damage typically have very different solutions. Once you have tested the system successfully, you are ready to install it. We recommend you install LEDs, electronic controls and dimmers in such a way that you have access to them in case they fail. All electrical components can fail. Copyright EnvironmentalLights.com 10 All Rights Reserved 10/10/14
