Status of AAPP / CSPP Operation DBNet products(atovs, IASI) of KMA have been showing good performance in terms of quality and timeliness (checked by the daily report of MetOffice) Current Version (Date of Installation) - (AAPP) V7.13 (08/02/16) - (CSPP) SDR V2.2, (06/28/16) EDR V2.0, (05/27/15) MIRS V2.0, (10/20/15) NUCAPS V1.1, (06/20/16) Relay Scheme of NMSC for Direct Readout ATOVS and IASI Data NMSC AVHRR AMSU MHS HIRS IASI KMA HQ AVHRR AMSU MHS HIRS GTS Network (Tokyo) Raw -> Level 1C 200Mbps => 10GB (2016)
Status of AAPP / CSPP Operation Hardware Configuration Processing Software and Facilities AAPP CSPP model 23 44 Computer Hardware CPUs Model name Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5430 @ Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU 2.66GHz E5640 @ 2.67GHz RAM 8G 32G Hard drive 400G 1.8T Operating System Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.2 (Tikanga) CentOS release 6.5 (final) Network Connection teaming(1+1) teaming(1+1) Bandwidth 1Gbps(Total : 2Gbps) 1Gbps(Total : 2Gbps) * Currently, ATMS & CrIS SDR processing time delay(raw -> level 1C BUFR) is about 30 min., respectively. The time delay needs to be shorten for future DBNet operation
Action Item related to KMA Adaptability of receiving station to LHCP/RHCP a) the type of receiving stations operated under your responsibility => NMSC has only RHCP receiving facilities now b) the feasibility of adapting the station(s) to make the polarization configurable (LHCP/RHCP) At this point we re not sure that technically one antenna-based facility can receive the both polarization signal, therefore information and studies related to this issue are needed. If an additional facility is inevitably needed for receiving LHCP signal data, we have to figure out the necessity level of the data and the budget issue.
Action Item related to KMA TLE update 12. All station operators should update the TLE at least once per day knowing that significant changes can appear after a satellite manoeuvre. => KMA is updating the TLE information daily Exemplary case for NOAA-18 TLE on 11 th Sep. 2011
Action Item related to KMA Priority of receiving NOAA satellites 14. Station operators are encouraged to give higher priority to NOAA-18 than NOAA-15 in reception scheduling. => KMA has set the configuration to give higher priority to NOAA-18 than NOAA-15 since 9 th Sep. 2016
Action Item related to KMA WIS registration of DBNet products 17. All DBNET products should be registered in WIS (directly with a GISC or through a DCPC) and in Vol.C1 as mentioned in the draft Guide. => KMA will register the DBNet products in DCPC-KMA based on the guidance.
Future Plans for DBNet Operation To make the IASI data be DBNet operational To collect and utilize the new station(syowa@antarctica) data provided by JMA To improve the CSPP processing timeliness of by upgrading the hardwares and software packages - BUFR data quality was validated for NWP utilization To prepare to receive the data of FY-3C and upcoming FY3D, JPSS etc.
Future Plan on LEO Program Development (plan) : ~ 2022 (TBD) Altitude/orbit : 500~900km / Sun-synchronous or dawn-dusk orbit (TBD) Satellite : ~500kg, instrument : ~150kg Possible type of Instrument - MW Sounder like ATMS, AMSU - Hyper-spectral sensors like CrIS (limited channels) - MW Imager like GMI * instrument type will be decided based on feasibility study International cooperation / joint development for payload and sensors
