ISBN: 978155738618 ATALOG NUMBER: B12222 Ryan Meeboer The original amilies in Markham ere the ones ho built Yonge Street, a main artery or the city o Toronto. Lord Simcoe as Governor General and anted a road to connect the city o York (no Toronto) to the northern areas o the rovince, and oered ree land to anyone ho ould hel to construct it. A grou o ennsylvania Germans moved in, built a section and ere aarded land in Markham, and the school is built on the old Ramer amily lot, here they had a oodlot. This iece as comosed to relect both the history o the Ramer amily and the celebration o the school s anniversary. It oens ith material that is anare in nature to mark the secial occasion. Some o the melodic material rom the body o the iece is introduced by the lute, oboe, and clarinets at measure 9. This oening section should be layed loudly and ith conidence, aying secial attention to the articulations to hel create the celebratory eel. The introduction ends by building u to a inal chord at measure 19, here a melodic ostinato is introduced by the lutes, and is suorted by the clarinets. W Although the lute and clarinets are to create a light eeling at measure 23, the melody, layed by the bassoon, tenor saxohone and horn, is to be ket as loing as ossible. Be sure that these layers do not cli any o the quarter notes, esecially i they are marked ith a tenuto. The iece builds at measure 31, by adding a driving rhythmic igure in the accomaniment. This background should be layed ith energy, but not overblon, as the ocus should remain on the melody. At measure 39, a variation o the melody is introduced, using a call-and-resonse style, much like the oening o the iece. This is meant to be loud and exressive like the oening, as it is climactic in nature, and it leads into the contrasting section o the iece. REVIEW EVI Measure 9 through 72 are meant to be somehat lyrical. The main melody, introduced by the clarinets, is simle and smooth, as oosed to the the energetic, and more rhythmically comlex one rom the revious sections. A countermelody is brought in at measure 57 and should be balanced dynamically ith the melody as it moves to the brass section. The lutes inish on the melody in this section, as the iece reintroduces original material, leading u to the D.S. Once reached, the coda is to be layed ith as much energy as ossible. The dynamics and articulations are marked to suit this need, hoever, be sure that the erormers do not sacriice tone to achieve this.
