LEADER DR. MARY C. BREDEN Mary Breden is Director of Choral Activities and Chair of the Department of Music at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. A member of the music faculty at LMU since 1992, Breden has also taught in both the choral and music education programs at San Jose State University and The University of Texas at Austin, and at Holy Family High School in Glendale, California. At Loyola Marymount Breden supervises the Choral Conducting Concentration. In this capacity she teaches such courses as Choral Conducting and Choral Methods. The LMU Concert Choir, Women s Chorus, and Consort Singers have appeared in a variety of performances throughout California, as well as New York City, Boston, Portland, Seattle, Tucson and Phoenix. Under Breden s leadership, the ensembles have also appeared at ACDA Western Division Conventions. They have toured with Michael Crawford and appeared with him on his PBS special Michael Crawford...Music of the Night. Active as a choral clinician, adjudicator and guest conductor, Breden is a Past President of the Western Division of the American Choral Directors Association. In addition, she has volunteered on the Education and Community Outreach Committee for the Los Angeles Master Chorale and is been a member of the Southern California Vocal Association, the National Collegiate Choral Organization, and the International Federation of Choral Music. Mary Breden received her M.M. and D.M.A. degrees in Choral Music from Arizona State University where she studied conducting with Douglas McEwen. She also studied with Paul Salamunovich while in undergraduate studies at Mount St. Mary s College in Los Angeles, and was, for several years, his accompanist with the choruses at Loyola Marymount University. She stays active in choral singing as a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Church Choir in North Hollywood, California REPERTOIRE Dr Breden is in consultation with authorities in Rome with regard to the music to be selected for the Mass. She will select a series of works (along with the music for the Mass) to comprise the 30- minute combined festival program being staged on June 20. Passion of 2
