lilliantoomandalaezine.com STUDY GUIDE For Modern Living MODULE 1 风水介绍 Introduction to Feng Shui Lillian too mandala STUDY GUIDE 1

Introduction to Feng Shui Feng shui has been practiced in China as a formalized technique of selecting auspicious sites since the Tang dynasty. It is an ancient science that has its roots in the Chinese way of viewing the universe where all things on earth are categorized into five basic elements and take on implications of positive or negative energy. Feng shui literally translated, means wind and water. It is the science of selecting living environments where the elements and energies are in harmonious balance, thereby bringing the good life to those who reside within that environment. Feng shui is also an art a skill borne of experience and common sense the skill of arranging one s immediate living and work space to further strengthen this vital balance and harmony. The practice of feng shui always starts with the first conceptual principle. This is the importance of location. If the whereabouts of your home is auspicious according to basic feng shui tenets, this alone will assure you and your family of a good life. The natural environment is extremely powerful and even if your interiors might suffer from some negative feng shui features, the effect will be insignificant if the location of your home enjoys excellent Form School feng shui. Landscape feng shui focuses on the physical surroundings of your home. The best location in landscape feng shui is pictorially represented here. This is defined in lyrical animal metaphors that refer to elevated landforms. These are the four celestial animals. This is known as armchair formation. This configuration is so auspicious that rich Chinese tycoons in the Far East countries actually have this contour of landforms artificially created around their family mansions to ensure they enjoy excellent feng shui. And it works! The Cardinal Rule: 1) Always try to have a mountain behind and water in front. In the modern landscape, tall buildings and solid structures represent the mountain. 2) Never have a mountain in front blocking your main door. The front of your home should be left empty. The 4 celestial animals the tortoise, the dragon, the tiger and the phoenix are important and powerful symbols of Landscape Feng Shui. The armchair formation is not easy to find in the natural landscape nor is it within everyone s budget, but it can be ingeniously simulated. This is how it can be done. Right White Tiger Back Black Tortoise Front Crimson Phoenix Left Green Dragon Lillian too mandala STUDY GUIDE 1

The Black Tortoise First you must take care of your back. The tortoise symbolizes support for your home, support from important people, long life and protection. 1) The ground behind should be higher than the land in front. 2) If possible, find a mound that resembles the back of the tortoise. 3) If you cannot create higher ground behind, hang a painting or place a tortoise at the back portion of your home. 4) Do not stay on the top of a hill. This does not provide support for your home, leaving it exposed to the elements. 5) Do not live below road level. This symbolizes a lack of support for your home. House below road level symbolizes lack of support. The Green Dragon The Dragon is the ultimate good luck symbol to the Chinese. The Dragon brings you protection, wealth and an abundance of good fortune. In Landscape Feng Shui, physical landforms that can house the Green Dragon are the best indication that a site is auspicious. Only undulating land can house Dragons. How to look for hills with Dragons? 1) Look for land that is undulating rather than flat. 2) Look for grass that grows verdant and green. 3) The soil should be fertile. 4) The air should smell good. 5) The site should be relatively sheltered against strong winds. Around your home, try to have the natural landscape as follows: 1) Let the dragon hills be on the left side of your home by ensuring that land on your left is higher than land on your right. 2) The land on the left side of your home should be higher than to your right. Let the neighbour on your left be slightly higher than the neighbour on your right. The same principle applies to apartments and other buildings. The White Tiger The White Tiger is as important as the Green Dragon and is always found where there is the true Dragon. When Dragon hills are present, then it can be assumed that Tiger hills are also present. When the Tiger hills are higher, it creates problems and hurts people. But, when the Tiger is lower and under control, it will bring protection to the family living there. 1) Tiger hills must always be lower than Dragon hills. 2) The land to the right side of your home must be lower that your left. That means, your neighbour on your right be slightly lower than the neigbour on your left. This same principle applies to apartments. The Red Phoenix The phoenix is represented by the space in front of your house. The phoenix is said to represent opportunities that bring material comforts. Any blockage at the front of the home makes success hard to come by and severe losses may be suffered. 1) The front part of the house should be flat or at least lower than the back, the left or the right of the home. This creates a bright hall effect. 2) Do not have any structure, mountain or hill blocking the front of your house. 3) It is good to have a small elevation or even a rock on the front lawn to represent the phoenix.
