The RNCM is pleased to invite applications for three days of dynamic master classes with internationally acclaimed conductors and RNCM Conducting Faculty members Mark Heron and Clark Rundell and featuring an exciting new partnership with Manchester Camerata. Now in its 10th year, this weekend course reflects the core belief that underpins all of the College s world-class conducting programmes: conductors learn by conducting other musicians. All participants can expect to conduct a combination of rehearsal pianists, chamber ensembles and orchestras on at least five occasions over the three days. Orchestras and ensembles for the first two days will be students from the RNCM and the University of Manchester. On the final day, 50% of the orchestra will be members of Manchester Camerata, one of the UK s leading professional chamber orchestras, sitting side-byside with selected RNCM students. The Camerata principal players will take an active role in those sessions, providing feedback to participants alongside the course faculty. The weekend is an ideal opportunity for those considering applying for the RNCM s MMus and Junior Fellow programmes to find out more about the integral role that conducting plays in the life of the College. We also welcome experienced musicians and educators for whom conducting is part of a wider career in music, and those involved in amateur music-making. The course is open to both active conductors and observers and will focus on key practical issues including conducting technique, interpretation, rehearsal and preparation. All sessions will be filmed and online files made available to all participants. Repertoire will include: Johannes Brahms Symphony No 2 Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony No 4 Igor Stravinsky Soldier s Tale For further information contact: Telephone +44 161 907 5334

Active places A maximum of 12 active participants will be invited. To apply for an active place, you are invited to submit a brief CV and a link to an online video of your conducting (YouTube, Vimeo etc). This information should be sent with the completed application form before Friday 6 March 2015. Successful participants will be notified no later than 13 March. Venue The RNCM is located in Manchester City Centre and is easily accessible from Manchester Airport and local train stations. For further information on how to find the RNCM visit www.rncm.ac.uk/about/find-us. The RNCM s catering facilities will be open during the event. Observer places Observers are also invited to watch all sessions and to participate in group discussions. This opportunity will be of interest to conductors of any level or to anyone who is interested in how gesture and body language can be used in leadership. It would be useful to receive completed registration forms along with payment by Friday 27 March 2015 if possible, but observers are able to turn up and pay on the day. Manchester Camerata Manchester Camerata is one of the UK s leading chamber orchestras, renowned for dynamic performances, innovative collaborations and pioneering Learning and Participation work. Founded in 1972, the orchestra is home to some of the finest musicians in the world and uses music in innovative ways to redefine what an orchestra can do. Collaborating with some of the world s most exceptional artists, Manchester Camerata is always looking to create immersive experiences that bring audiences and participants even closer to the music. The great Hungarian musician, Gábor Takács-Nagy, is in his fourth season as Music Director, and is hailed for his communicative powers with audiences. Manchester Camerata s pioneering Learning and Participation programme uses music to promote positive change and personal social development across three specialist areas of expertise: young people in schools, health and wellbeing, and our youth programme.
