With 200 over performances annually, including guest artists, student recitals, ensembles and musical productions, you have endless opportunities to perform, from competing in Lithuania to performing in the Dominican Republic. Area of Study Performance Performance A Bachelor of Music in one of our performance areas allows students to continue their individual training while gaining essential professional and entrepreneurial skills. Brass, Percussion and Woodwinds Samford prepared me not only academically but personally. I am currently studying at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and credit much of my success to my experience at Samford. Through one-on-one studio sessions to a rigorous performing schedule with ensembles and weekly course study, I benefited from solo performances, professional settings and personal growth. Area of Study Composition Composition majors pursue a variety of post-graduate careers and paths: composers and 13 arrangers for film, television, the concert hall, and the church; recording artists and 14 songwriters; graduate studies in music at the master s and doctoral level; educators and teachers in preparatory programs, high schools, and colleges/universities; church ministers of music, artists-in-residence, and staff arrangers; and legal field in copyright law. Composition Composition majors are encouraged to explore composition across an array of styles, including contemporary, classical, electronic music, jazz, indie rock, contemporary Christian, gospel, folk, and film scoring. Student composers participate in master classes with guest ensembles and composers-in-residence and partner with chamber groups and large ensembles for reading/recording sessions, rehearsals, and concert performances. Area of Study Music and Worship A Bachelor of Music in music and worship is designed for students committed to vocational music and worship ministry. The program includes course work in music, worship, ministry and religion, and a supervised experience in a congregational setting. 15 16 Samford s School of the Arts has strong relationships with local churches and most students work, intern or volunteer at one of the many ministries in the area. Our graduates have gone on to serve churches across the globe. This highly experiential degree program places students in actual classrooms as early as freshman year.
