rogram NOTES Jesu, Joy o Man s Desiring is the 10th movement rom Johann Seastian Bach s Herz und Mund und Tat und Leen. This arrangement or concert and was meant to share this eautiul theme in a lush chordal setting. J.S. Bach was a suremely gited comoser and musician. In my oinion, he is history s master o melody, counteroint and voice leading. In this arrangement, all instruments have an oortunity to share the theme that is considered Bach s most amous and timeless. Samuel Hazo Aril 27, 2012 ABOT THE COMOSER (. 1966) Samuel R. Hazo resides in ittsurgh, ennsylvania with his wie and three children. In 2003, Mr. Hazo ecame the irst comoser in history to e awarded the winner o oth comosition contests sonsored y the National Band Association. (William D. Revelli in 2003 and Merrill Jones in 2001) He is a ull memer o ASCA and has een honored with multile ASCA-lus Awards. Mr. Hazo has comosed or the roessional, university and ulic school levels in addition to writing original scores or television, radio and the stage. His original symhonic comositions include erormances with actors Brooke Shields, James Earl Jones, David Conrad and Richard Kiley. He has also written symhonic arrangements or three-time Grammy Award winning singersongwriter Lucinda Williams. Mr. Hazo s comositions have een erormed and recorded world-wide, including erormances y the nited States Military Bands, the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra, the Birmingham Symhonic Winds (K) and the Klavier Wind roject s recordings with Eugene Migliaro Cororon. His works have een layed at every major music convention in the world and also aired in ull-length rograms on National ulic Radio. remiering erormance ensemles include a variety o roessional, university, all-state and honors ensemles. His commissions include ieces ordered y the Wenger Cororation, National Honor Band o America, the Midwest Clinic Board o Directors and The niversity o Notre Dame or a 2010 World remiere in Carnegie Hall. Mr. Hazo s titles have consistently aeared in the GIA series Teaching Music Through erormance in Band. He is also a contriuting author to the 3rd volume o Mark Camhouse s and GIA s Comosers on Comosing or Band and Meredith ulications The Music Director s Cookook. Mr. Hazo served as comoser-in-residence at Craig Kirchho s niversity o Minnesota s 2003 conducting symosium, and in March o 2005, his icture aeared in the cover o The Instrumentalist magazine in conjunction with that issue s eature story on Mr. Hazo s career. Samuel R. Hazo has een a music teacher at every educational grade level rom kindergarten through college, including tenure as a high school and university director. Mr. Hazo was twice named Teacher o Distinction y the Teachers Excellence oundation. He received his achelor s and master s degrees rom Duquesne niversity where he served on the Board o Governors and was awarded as Duquesne s Outstanding Graduate in Music Education. Mr. Hazo serves as a guest conductor and is a clinician or Hal Leonard Cororation. He is also sonsored y Sielius Music Sotware. His original comositions and arrangements are ulished y Hal Leonard, Boosey Hawkes, JH Music and Wingert-Jones ulications.
