Accommodation: Two nights in NH Dresden Altmarkt or similar Day 2 Locations: Dresden Overview: The tour starts with a half day tour around the city of Dresden. The focus of the guided tour is of Wagner related sites in Dresden. In the afternoon, there will be a wine-tasting at Schloss Wackerbarth. Accommodation: NH Dresden Altmarkt or similar Day 3 Overview: This morning, we travel to Graupa, where we visit the Jagdschloss, which includes a multimedia exhibition titled "Wagner in Saxony." From there, we travel to Leipzig, where we enjoy a 5pm performance of "Das Rheingold," followed by dinner at a local restaurant. Day 4 Overview: This morning, we take a guided city tour of Leipzig that follows in the steps of Wagner. After the tour, you will have the afternoon to spend as you wish. Day 5 Overview: Today we visit Halle. The group will enjoy a walking tour of the town, famous as the birthplace of Baroque composer Georg Friedrich Händel. Their will be a short stop in Eisleben to see the city before the group returns to Leipzig. Wagner lived with relatives in Eisleben, after the death of his stepfather. In the late afternoon, we enjoy another opera performance, this time of Siegfried, the third of the four music dramas that constitute Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung). This opera premiered at the Bayreuth Festspielhaus on 16 August 1876, as part of the first complete performance of The Ring cycle. Day 6 Overview: This morning, we enjoy an excursion to the magnificent Colditz castle, a former prisoner of war camp and now a museum, hostel and music academy. The entrance includes a guided tour. We will then return to Leipzig to see the final instalment of Wagner's Ring Cycle, 'Götterdämmerung'. Day 7 Overview: In the morning, the tour travels to Naumburg. There, we will visit the beautiful Naumburg Cathedral before boarding an hourlong cruise from Saale to Freybourg. We will then transfer to Leipzig, 09-Mar-2018 4/7
where we have an evening free. Day 8 Locations: Bayreuth Overview: This morning we travel from Leipzig to Plauen, where we will stop to view the town. From there, we will head to Markneukirchen for a visit to the Framus museum, which holds a wonderful variety of German instruments. We then travel to Bayreuth. Accommodation: 2 nights Ramada Residenzschloss or similar Day 9 Locations: Bayreuth Overview: The group will begin the day with a guided tour of Bayreuth, where they will see the main sights that relate to the life of Wagner. In the afternoon we'll visit the stunning Festspielhaus opera house, which includes a guided tour. On their way we'll stop at the Walhalla memorial, a hall of fame that includes important artists, composers, and other German cultural icons.
