CORDIAL INVITATION September 2017 will see the start of something very special: ISTRAMUSICA, our new INTERKULTUR music festival that is to take place in Croatia, is not just another interesting event. It is quite different from any of the other events out there because this time, it is up to you to decide what precise shape ISTRAMUSICA is going to take. There are no constricting requirements whatsoever. There is just what you and your ensemble would like. With this event we offer you the opportunity to determine how and when you and your choir make an appearance. Over the course of one month, between 9 September and 8 October 2017, we will arrange all your concerts impressive or intimate in scale. We organize workshops and arrange opportunities to meet with other choirs from around the world. We provide support for your rehearsals from distinguished world-class guest conductors and provide a stage for the talented people from your own ranks. And let s not forget the spectacle and popular favorite that is INTERKULTUR s signature International Choir Competition, which will be the event s spectacular grand finale. You will be our main priority throughout the event. It is up to you to decide how many days and when exactly you would like to join us to sing and make music together. We create the optimum conditions for your success, whether it is choral activities we organize for your group, or evaluation activities with internationally renowned choral experts or whether we can help you stage a gala concert one Adriatic evening at the famous Euphrasian Basilica. Speaking of this Adriatic setting: recreational opportunities and tourist destinations abound in this delightful, sought-after area. The Croatian city of Poreč, directly on the Adriatic Sea, is the perfect spot to bring your ideas to life and give your choir lasting memories of creative, thrilling and eventful days together. Welcome to Poreč! Günter Titsch 3

EVENT OVERVIEW

GENERAL EVENT OVERVIEW WHAT? WHEN? HOW? DID WE FORGET ANYTHING? ISTRAMUSICA, our month-long choir festival, is nothing if not varied and flexible. Over the coming pages, we will go into all the options available to you to shape your choir s participation in the festival exactly to your preference. The overview on page 8 tells you precisely when we would be able to offer you specific elements of the program. You will find that many of the events can be realized at any time during the festival. However, activities connected to a certain theme or event may still be bound to a specific timeframe and we find concerts are best planned on weekends. You indicate your preferences (you can give us several) and the timeframe of interest to you, and forward them to us by using the event request form on www.interkultur.com. We will contact you and together plan your participation in the ISTRAMUSICA festival. If you are a regular with us, you will already know that our highly skilled and experienced INTERKULTUR employees can offer excellent advice to choirs worldwide. Providing the best possible guidance is one of INTERKULTUR s strong suits. That is why we can tailor the program precisely to you and your choir s requirements, and how we safeguard the quality of our event. If you like, we can even offer support throughout the process, from initial consultation through to final evaluation. When you have worked everything out to your liking, you can send us your registration form. If you find anything missing from our offer, please notify us. We are sure we can help you from there. 5

PARTICIPATION OFFERS

CONCERTS CONCERTS at churches and/or concert halls Concerts at churches and/or concert halls Poreč, our host city on the Adriatic Sea, offers over 2000 years of history as well as countless opportunities for smaller or larger-scale concerts in and around the town. You could, for instance, perform at one of the following locations: a) The Euphrasian Basilica The Euphrasian Basilica is Poreč s most famous tourist attraction. It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1997 and is one of the most important religious buildings of Croatia. Its current appearance actually dates back as far as the 6 th century. The Basilica is one of the most important remaining examples of late ancient and early Byzantine art in the whole of the Adriatic region. at and/or concert churches halls Concerts b) The Church of Our Lady of the Angels This church is situated on the main square, right in the middle of the city center. It provides a wonderful setting for choral performances. c) The Istrian Assembly Hall in Italian style The Istrian Assembly Hall in Italian style contains a charming Renaissance-style room well suited for smaller choral performances. For those choirs that are interested, and that perform a fitting religious repertoire, a performance during a service in one of the local churches is among the possibilities. Please enquire further, so we can discuss the options. 10

Open-air CONCERTS Open-air concerts There are plenty of options for open-air concerts in and around Poreč. The following stages are contenders: a) The open-air stage at the harbor An open-air stage at the harbor, put up especially for the occasion, will provide a magnificent backdrop to all sorts of concerts. Vivacious folkloristic performances go just as well as subtle jazz or engaging pop shows. Especially in the evening, the entertainment blends in wonderfully with the romantic Adriatic setting to create stunning spectacles to the joy of both the performing artists and the countless vacationing guests strolling around town. b) The main square of Poreč is especially suited for both planned and spontaneous smaller or informal performances, as well as for special Friendship Concerts that see several choirs join forces. Concerts Open Air Regarding open-air concerts, please note that in the event that weather conditions do not allow for open-air performances, some concerts may be cancelled due to the weather. The organizers will try their best to arrange a replacement concert, but cannot guarantee one.

CONCERTS GALA CONCERTS Gala Concerts We put on a great show and create the perfect setting for your choir. Especially on weekends, exciting ensembles with their own concert program are most welcome on the stage. We offer choirs that have the right proficiency level the opportunity to contribute half of an evening s performance or give a full concert by themselves. There are no limits in this respect, and instrumentalists, soloists and vocal groups are just as welcome to contribute. The main objective is to offer exciting and engaging programs. You can also contribute a performance to the opening program (9 September) or the festival finale (7 October). Concerts Gala Concerts A word of advice when planning your concerts: If you are interested in the kind of concert opportunities mentioned above, it is important that you consider carefully the kind of concert(s) you would like to have materialized and the conditions needed to make that happen. There are no content restrictions, but of course a program should go well with the performance location of choice. From our experience, programs between 20 and 30 minutes long are generally a good choice. They also give other choirs the opportunity to contribute parts of the program and are not too demanding on your own choir. Choirs with existing full-length concert programs can of course take on full performances (around 90 minutes) or fill up half of a concert (around 45 minutes). Performances of choirs with their own, self-provided, orchestra accompaniment, are also conceivable Best occasions for concerts: As we are looking to get as many visitors and participating choirs as possible to attend your performances, we have centered our attention on the weekends and believe these provide the best opportunity for a show. This way, you should also have more opportunities to work on projects with other choirs and attend other activities. As Poreč is a popular travel destination, it is still possible to arrange performances for you on weekdays. 12

LEARN SINGING TOGETHER Meeting and working with other choirs from all over the world In the context of the ISTRAMUSICA Festival, we also strive to bring together choirs from all over the world to learn and to sing alongside each other. Over the course of a period of working together, several choral pieces are rehearsed and prepared for the joint performance. The artistic leader in charge will rehearse the choral pieces that have been selected with all participating choirs, to be performed in a later concert by all involved. You can be the one to conduct these pieces yourself, or your colleague from another choir. It is also possible to arrange for one of our internationally renowned choral conductors to do it. They can give a last bit of fresh, positive input when working with the singers. Each choir can perform their own contribution to this concert, with all choirs singing together afterwards or in between. Singing Together CHORAL OR ORCHESTRA ACTIVITIES orchestra activities Choral or Choir or orchestra camp Just looking for separate choral activities? Then the ISTRAMUSICA festival in Poreč is a good choice as well. We can offer rehearsal spaces and the right conditions. In this beautiful environment, you will have the opportunity to work with your choir, join concerts or attend performances. Of course we are also more than willing to help plan your spare time activities. Arrange your choral activity according to your preferences. A weekend, three days or four or more... Start of September, mid-september, end of September...there are plenty of possibilities! And by the way should you be joined by your own orchestra, band or instrumental group, we can of course accommodate for them as well. The joint performances will be something to behold, and we are very much looking forward to them! Learn 13

LEARN EVALUATION PERFORMANCE Evaluation Performance with renowned choral experts The Evaluation Performance is a successful concept that makes up a very popular element of our international choir competitions. Choirs that opt for an Evaluation Performance before a competition are always very pleased with the suggestions they get from the recognized experts in choral music. Some of the tension that builds up before a choir competition is removed and the choir gets valuable artistic input and new insights from the experience. We would also like to provide the opportunity to benefit from these sessions within the context of this festival, regardless of whether the choir in question joins the competition or not. In addition, it is possible to arrange a more in-depth version of these consultations and work with the individual jurors, who can give you encouraging suggestions on how your choir members can become even more effective performers in the future. This Evaluation Performance takes up 1 hour. We can also arrange for a longer session if you are interested. Preparatory workshop for later participation in INTERKULTUR events Our evaluation activities are also available specifically tailored to preparing choirs for INTERKULTUR Choir Competitions. This version includes an explanation of the criteria that are used in these competitions and candidates receive valuable advice on how to successfully showcase their program to an international audience as well as suggestions for their repertoire. As part of this arrangement, choirs can also opt for the full consultation program. Choirs that participate in these activities receive an official INTERKULTUR certificate and a commendation for their participation in an upcoming international choir competition in the respective category (Open Competition, Champions Competition, Grand Prix of Nations). Evaluation Performance Evaluation 18

COACHINGS Individual Coaching: the opportunity to work with internationally acclaimed conductors INTERKULTUR works with only the best, internationally renowned choral conductors and experts in the field. The thought of having such an important figure of the European, African, Asian or American conducting elite work with your choir can be an exciting prospect. More than just being a breath of fresh air for the choir; they can also release unexpected potential that could have a great positive effect on your further activities. You decide what needs to be rehearsed and our expert goes through the pieces with you. The duration of a rehearsal with one of our conductors is 1 hour. We can also arrange for a longer session if you are interested half a day, a whole day... you name it. You may even have your sights set on a specific international choral expert? We will then do our best to engage him or her for your choir. Evaluation Individual Coaching 19
