The Sammamish Symphony Led by our Music Director/ Conductor R. Joseph Scott, has grown from a handful of dedicated musicians to the fullsized ensemble you will enjoy hearing today. Founded over a decade ago as the Providence Point Players, we have had a long commitment to the Sammamish community. We were incorporated in 1994 as The Sammamish Symphony Orchestra Association, a nonprofit organization. Our goals are to enrich the local fine arts scene, offering convenient and affordable musical performances; and to promote involvement in the arts by the young people of our community, providing opportunities for learning. We serve Sammamish and the surrounding communities by making great orchestral music readily accessible to all residents, and by increasing the public's musical literacy through educational programs and performances by local musicians. R. Joseph Scott Now in his fourth season as the Music Director and Conductor of the Sammamish Symphony Orchestra, R. Joseph Scott has been active in the orthwest musical community for over 35 years. After attending the University of Oregon School of Music, he studied conducting with Eugene Furst and Wolfgang Martin of the Portland Opera Orchestra, Henry Holt of the Seattle Opera, Mikael Scheremetiew of the Thalia Conservatory, and Vilem Sokol of the Seattle Youth Symphony. Before joining the Sammamish Symphony, he founded the Bellevue Philharmonic Orchestra, and was their Music Director, Conductor and General Manager from 1967-1997. He has appeared as Guest Conductor with various Northwest musical ensembles, and he has conducted world premieres of works by Alan Hovhaness, Vaclav Nelhybel, and several local composers. Maestro Scott is also an accomplished instrumentalist, performing as Tympanist and Oboist with several regional orchestras and touring Europe twice with the Grande Ronde Symphony. During his career, he has shared the concert stage with a diverse array of artists, including Metropolitan Opera star Roberta Peters; violinist Pamela Frank; Broadway Tony Award winner Anna Maria Alberghetti; pop vocalists Marni Nixon, Lou Rawls, and Maureen McGovern; the Empire Brass Quintet; and the Seattle Opera Chorus. Maestro R. Joseph Scott draws from this extensive experience to produce music of the highest quality.
