SCMS SCHOOL OF TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT Pratap Nagar, Muttom, Aluva DOC NO: SSTM-MBA-001 Page 8 of 24 TITLE: MANUAL FOR MBA MAJOR PROJECT REPORT PREPARATION Revision no: R7 Date: 15-01-2017 Citing Direct Quotations in text When reproducing word for word material directly quoted from another author s work as quotes, always provide the author, year, and specific page citation or paragraphs number for non-paginated material. If the quotation comprises fewer than 40 words, incorporate it into text and enclose the quotation with double quotation marks. Example: Author s name in text In their study, Ramesh and Suresh (2012) found that the variations in the level of dissatisfaction among the clients seemed best explained by their attitude towards quality (p.112) Author s name not in text The variations in the level of dissatisfaction among the clients seemed best explained by their attitude towards quality (Ramesh & Suresh, 2012, p.112) If the quotation comprises 40 or more words, display it in a free standing block of text and omit the quotation marks. Start such block quotation on a new line and indent the block about a half inch from the left margin. Example; There have been numerous studies in this areas and other have contradicted this view: Citing References in text Co-presence does not ensure intimate interaction among all group members. Consider large-scale social gatherings in which hundreds or thousands of people gather in a location to perform a ritual or celebrate an event. In these instances, participants are able to see the visible manifestation of the group, the physical gathering, yet their ability to make direct, intimate connections with those around them is limited by the sheer magnitude of the assembly. (Purcell, 1997, pp. 111-112) The author-date method of citation requires that the surname of the author (do not include suffixes such as Jr., Dr., Mr. etc.) Prepared by : Mr. Santhosh S. Issue Date : 15.01.2017 Approved by : Dr. Sashi Kumar G. Approved date: 15.01.2017

SCMS SCHOOL OF TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT Pratap Nagar, Muttom, Aluva DOC NO: SSTM-MBA-001 Page 9 of 24 TITLE: MANUAL FOR MBA MAJOR PROJECT REPORT PREPARATION Revision no: R7 Date: 15-01-2017 One work by one Author Example Author s name in text: Author s name not in text: Kessler (2003) found that among epidemiological samples. Early onset results in more persistent and severe course (Kessler,2003). One work by multiple Authors When a work has two authors, cite both names every time the reference occurs in text. When a work has three, four or five authors. Cite all authors the first time the reference occurs; in subsequent citations, include only the surname of the first author followed by et al. with the year if it is the first citation of the reference within a paragraph. This hypothesis (Bradley and Rogers 7) suggested this theory (Sumner, Reichl, and Waugh 23). Bibliography Bibliography gives the list of books and other sources consulted for the study. This list provides the complete information necessary to identify and retrieve each source. Bibliography is different from reference list. Reference list includes the sources cited in the text or the sources used by the author and nothing else. Bibliography includes all the references that the author has read but not used or discarded because they are irrelevant or outdated. Bibliography can include sources which could be used by the reader for further reading on the topic. Steps in creating bibliography Begin Bibliography on a new page, with title Bibliography centered. Create a alphabetized list of sources based on the author s last name. A comma separating the last name and the initials and a period after each initial. After the author s name list the date of publication in parenthesis followed by a period after the closing of the parenthesis. Example (2012). Prepared by : Mr. Santhosh S. Issue Date : 15.01.2017 Approved by : Dr. Sashi Kumar G. Approved date: 15.01.2017

SCMS SCHOOL OF TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT Pratap Nagar, Muttom, Aluva DOC NO: SSTM-MBA-001 Page 10 of 24 TITLE: MANUAL FOR MBA MAJOR PROJECT REPORT PREPARATION Revision no: R7 Date: 15-01-2017 List the title of the article. Capitalize only the first Letter unless the following words are proper nouns. For sources without authors. Capitalize the first word and all other principal words of the titles and subtitles of cited works listed. (Do not capitalize articles, prepositions, coordinating conjunctions, or the to" in infinitives.) Shorten the publisher's name; for example, omit articles, business abbreviations (Co., Inc.), and descriptive words (Press, Publisher). When multiple publishers are listed, include all of them, placing a semicolon between each. When more than one city is listed for the same publisher, use only the first city. Use the conjunction "and," not an ampersand [&], when listing multiple authors of a single work. Refer Annexure X for a sample specimen of Bibliography. 4.12.3 Font The general text should be typed in Times New Roman Font, Regular Font Style, 12 Font size and left justified with one and half line spacing. Headings and Sub headings should be typed in font Times New Roman, font Style Bold, with font size 14 and 12 respectively. 4.12.4. Margins. The report must have a consistent margin of at least 1.5 inches at the left and 1 inch at the top, bottom, and right edges of the pages. No page should have any kind of border or decorations. 4.12.5. Spacing. The report body must have a line spacing of 1.5. Single spacing may be used for charts, graphs, quotations, captions, Titles etc. 4.12.6. Numbering of pages. All pages of the report body including bibliography and annexure should be numbered using Arabic numerals using Times new Roman font with font size twelve. Page numbers shall be placed at the top right side of the page one inch below the top edge of the page. 4.12.7.
