Music and movements inspired by the northern lights The divertissement ushers us through three acts inspired by ice and the northern lights, Aurora Borealis. The music is carefully chosen and composed to create a unique hymn to its Arctic foundations; it journeys from the natural sound of ice instruments to the eventual melting waters within a room both decorated and lit to reflect the Arctic Circle. The ice art is designed in association with Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi. The northern lights, Aurora Borealis in Latin, is a natural light display in the sky, predominantly seen in the Arctic regions. The bright dancing lights of the aurora are actually collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth s atmosphere. Lena Willemark has become a central feature of Swedish folk music and a groundbreaking genre crossing singer. From her upbringing in Älvdalen she carries a unique musical treasure that she learned from her masters. After her years at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, she has continually expanded her expression. Willemark has received many awards, including five Grammys. Terje Isungset is a drummer and composer from Norway. He is well known for crafting his own instruments out of elements from nature like stones, wood and ice. Isungset simply invented the ice music concept in 1999 and he is still seen as the only professional ice musician in the world. Ulla Pirttijärvi is a traditional yoiker and a singer/composer. She grew up in a reindeer herder family on the border between Finland and Norway and is one of the leading Sami artists, singing in constellations like ULDA and Transjoik. Ulla Pirttijärvi has received the Áillohaš award and the cultural prize given by the Saami Council. Sebastian Ring is a professional musician, composer and percussionist. He has worked for several music and theatre institutions in Sweden. Over the course of his career, he has also recorded and toured extensively with the Swedish percussion ensemble Komodo and the pop group SeLest. More recently, he has performed with artists such as Mia Skäringer and First Aid Kit. Musica Vitae Chamber Orchestra is an ensemble that brings live music indeed the music of life. The vast realm that is art music is handled with the utmost precision and elegance by its 15 string players. Spearheaded by Artistic Director Malin Broman, the ensemble presents musically unconventional constellations, continually forging new ties with leading soloists, conductors and composers worldwide. Malin Broman began playing the violin at the age of five. She pursued her studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen and Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. Highlights in her successful solo career include performances with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Swedish Radio Orchestra. In 2015, she took up the post as Artistic Director of the Musica Vitae Chamber Orchestra. Malin Broman is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.

Lisa Långbacka has her origins in folk music but an openness to other genres also brings her and her accordion to diverse musical worlds; from collaborations with pop, jazz and folk musicians to opera and theatre. Lisa has a Master s degree from the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. In 2015, Lisa Långbacka was elected The Accordionist of the Year by the Swedish Accordion Association. Cullbergbaletten (Cullberg Ballet) is the leading repertoire company for contemporary dance in Sweden. The company is an important contributor to the international presentation of dance and choreography with tours all over the world. Cullbergbaletten works with a range of international choreographers and artists. The company currently has 16 dancers from nearly as many countries, and guest dancers are continuously invited to various projects. Ane Brun, singer and songwriter, possesses one of Scandinavia s most distinctive voices, which she s employed on a dozen albums since her debut in 2003 with Spending Time with Morgan. Since then, she s been awarded three Norwegian Grammy prizes, with her albums topping the charts and going platinum in Scandinavia while picking up widespread acclaim internationally. Adolf Fredriks kyrkas kammarkör is a mixed choir linked to the Adolf Fredrik s Church located in the middle of Stockholm s city centre. The repertoire is mostly classical, both sacred and profane. The choir has participated in several choir competitions and most recently in the XIV International Choir Festival in Tallinn, Estonia, where it was awarded the Grand Prix of the entire festival.
