A unique opportunity Come study, rehearse and perform music over a five week period with the renowned Bach expert Helmuth Rilling. Helmuth Rilling founded the Stuttgart Festival Choir and Orchestra in 2001 and since then has been its principal director. Apply to take part in the Stuttgart Festival Choir and Orchestra. Applications are invited from musicians worldwide. Singers should be aged between 18 and 30 and orchestral musicians aged between 18 and 28. Who, where, when The following works by Johann Sebastian Bach will be studied and performed in 2005: Mass in B minor BWV 232 The 6 Brandenburg Concertos BWV 1046 1051 The 6 Motets BWV 225 230 plus Anh. 159 and Anh. 160 The above works will be performed several times. Rehearsals and concerts will take place from August 14 to September 18. You must be available for the whole time. The concerts of the Stuttgart Festival Choir and Orchestra will be the central point of the Europäischen Musikfests Stuttgart. Further concerts will take place in Leipzig (Thomaskirche), Berlin (Philharmonie) and Essen (Philharmonie). Choir members are also encouraged to work with the five voice coaches on additional works which they can bring with them. There exists the possibility to perform these works in an internal concert. Internationally renowned music teachers and professors of the flute, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, violin, viola, violincello and double bass will work with the ensemble in group and general rehearsals. In addition there will be three masterclasses for recorder, viola da gamba and cembalo. Students will study and play the solo parts of the Brandenburg concertos and will give a midday concert in the Europäisches Musikfest. Travel, accommodation, food and course fee costs will be paid for by the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart for all members of the ensemble. A 20 (Euro) registration fee is charged for all applicants.* * Special conditions apply for applications from Eastern Europe.

Auditions take place in Europe, Canada and the USA in a two week period from the end of March 2005. After auditioning, successful candidates will be notified no later than 30 April 2004. The closing date for applications is one week before the first date at your preferred place for auditioning (see application form for details) The course languages are German and English. Requirements Choir Experience in ensemble singing and a thorough preparation of the main works. Candiates must accurately prepare the audition pieces with regard to tempo, dynamics and articulation. Excellent pronounciation of the German texts in the Motets, ability to sight read and the ability to sing without vibrato so that the voice mixes well in small ensembles. Orchestra Thorough preparation of all the main works. Orchestral members should also be prepared to play the solo parts in the B minor mass and in the Brandenburg concertos (the string orchestral professors will lead each section but will not play the solo parts). The complete orchestral ensemble for the B minor mass will be divided for the Brandenburg concertos and the Motets. Auditions Auditions will take place in various cities worldwide between 29 March and 13 April 2005. You can find a list of the places on the application form and fuller details will be published as they become available on our web page. Applications from countries or from places too distant from one of our audition cities can send us a good quality video (VHS), DVD, MiniDisc, cassette or CD. The conditions for submitting a recorded audition can be found on our website. Recorder, Viola da Gamba, Cembalo For these three instruments we will be offering masterclasses. Works to be studied will include the solo parts in the Brandenburg concertos and chamber music to be performed at a midday concert in the Europäisches Musikfest Stuttgart. The masterclasses will begin on Monday 22 August and finish on 1st September. Applications to be made with a recorded audition and letters of recommendation.
