This intensive prgram, t be held at Lincln Center Educatin, Manhattan, will begin n July 31, 2017 and end n August 11, 2017. MS Arts Auditin Bt Camp is administered by the New Yrk City Department f Educatin s Office f Arts and Special Prjects. This will be ur furth year serving these talented Middle Schl students f New Yrk City. Our gal is t prvide equity and access in preparatin fr screened DOE high schl arts schls/prgrams fr currently underserved Middle Schl students (e.g., rising 8 th graders) interested in auditining fr a screened High Schl arts prgram. Dance - Open t students entering grade 8 Auditin Frmat: Prepare: Suggestins: Ballet and Mdern technique class, imprvisatin, and individual interviews. Be prepared t spend a half day in the auditin (9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. r 12:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.). Students will receive feedback frm a NYCDOE dance teacher and a Julliard Schl teaching artist. Please wear apprpriate dance r mvement attire. Hair shuld be neatly pulled back. Bys may wear white t-shirts and tights r sweat pants. Present yurself as a dancer thrugh yur mvement, class participatin and use f fcus. Students auditining fr the dance Bt Camp shuld have sme previus dance training r experience at schl r in a dance studi setting. Instrumental Music - Open t students entering grade 8 Please nte that the Instrumental Music studi des nt include guitar r pian. String instruments are limited t vilin, vila, cell r string bass. The instrumental studi is designed t enhance and refine the musical skills and techniques f yung, aspiring instrumental musicians. The curriculum develps music perfrmance thrugh explratin f a variety f musical repertire. Experienced Department f Educatin instrumental music teachers and New Yrk Philharmnic artists will prvide individual feedback and small grup music instructin. Auditin Frmat: Prepare: Bring: Requirements: Perfrmance f ne prepared selectin befre music faculty. One musical selectin in any style t demnstrate ability and talent (length f selectin is nt critical). Memrizatin is nt required. Please bring yur instrument and a cpy f yur auditin sheet music with yu, if available. Large wind, string, and percussin instruments will be prvided. Student must be able t demnstrate the ability t play ne prepared selectin. Theater - Open t students entering grade 8 Fcus n individual auditin preparatin and mnlgue wrk as well as sme explratin f partner scene study. Drawing frm acclaimed cntemprary and classical plays students further develp their acting and perfrmance skills. Additinal training fcuses n actr preparedness, prfessinalism and the cnfidence t cmmand the stage. Students will als engage in a variety f intensive physical exercises as well as vcal training t increase range and prjectin abilities. The abilities t read well, cmmunicate and understand cmplex text are assets in this prgram. Theater studi students shuld be prepared t take directin and cllabrate. Visual Art - Open t students entering grade 8 In MS Art Auditin Bt Camp, visual arts students develp skills and knwledge needed t begin the prcess f prducing cmpetitive prtflis fr specialized art prgrams. Students wrk with at least tw media ver the curse f the Bt Camp. Emphasis is placed n drawing and painting, develping bservatinal skills, and stimulating imaginative thinking. Thrughut the Bt Camp, students have pprtunities t share wrk with peers, and receive feedback. Engagement with cmmunity partners, interactin with prfessinal artists, and museum visits enhance the students learning experience. Students will wrk with NYCDOE visual arts teachers and teaching artists frm Studi in a Schl. Auditin Frmat: Prepare and bring: Nte: Prtfli review f 5 pieces f artwrk, brief interview, and cmpletin f ne drawing frm bservatin. Prtfli f 5 unframed, riginal wrks that demnstrate skill in ne r mre f the fllwing media: drawing, painting, printmaking, and cllage. (This may include wrk the student is planning t present when applying t screened high schls this fall.) The drawing exercise and brief interview will last apprximately 90 minutes. Vcal Music - Open t students entering grade 8 The vcal music studi is designed t enhance and refine the musical skills and techniques f yung, aspiring vcal musicians. The curriculum develps music perfrmance skills thrugh the understanding f a variety f vcal music repertire. Experienced Department f Educatin vcal music teachers and teaching artists frm the Weill Institute f Music at Carnegie Hall will prvide individual feedback and small grup music instructin. Auditin Frmat: A cappella (withut accmpaniment) perfrmance f ne prepared selectin befre music faculty, vice assessment, rhythm and tnal memry test. Prepare: One musical selectin in any style t demnstrate vcal quality and range (length f selectin is nt critical).
