Edinburgh Waverley Infrastructure works Haymarket connection guide 27 Dec 2006 19 May 2007 Information on Fife, Stirling and Carnoustie services leaving from and terminating at Haymarket station instead of Waverley station during the construction works. This guide also includes service information for passengers travelling on Newcraighall, North Berwick, West Calder and Bathgate services.

Affected services Edinburgh-Dunfermline-Kirkcaldy-Edinburgh Edinburgh/Glasgow-Dunblane-Perth Edinburgh-Dundee-Aberdeen-Dyce Airport Helensburgh Upper Larbert Dunoon Kilcreggan Queen Street Glasgow Gourock Central Rothesay Paisley Wemyss Bay Largs Largs Barassie Barrhead Motherwell Carstairs Falkirk West Calder TAY BRIDGE Cupar Springfield Gleneagles Glenrothes with Thornton Cardenden Dunblane Lochgelly Cowdenbeath Bridge of Allan Perth Dunfermline Queen Margaret Dunfermline Town Stirling Rosyth Markinch Kirkcaldy Kinghorn Burntisland Aberdour Dalgety Bay Inverkeithing FORTH BRIDGE Edinburgh We are improving your station Drem Dunbar Newcraighall Dundee Broughty Ferry Leuchars for St. Andrews Ladybank North Berwick Dyce Aberdeen Portlethen Stonehaven Montrose Arbroath Carnoustie Golf Street Barry Links Monifieth Balmossie Edinburgh Waverley is one of the UK s busiest train stations, used by over 23 million passengers a year. Passenger demand has increased by 50 per cent in the last five years and is forecast to continue to rise. Supported by Transport Scotland, we are therefore investing 150 million to improve your station. This will result in less overcrowding, an increased number of services, improved reliability and better access for passengers. The works will be complete by December 2007. What this means for you To enable these improvements, we will be closing several platforms from the end of December 2006. Parts of the line at Waverley between Waverley and Haymarket will also be closed. Throughout this time, you will still be able to travel by train to your destination. To minimise the impact, we will also bring five new platforms into use four at Waverley and one at Haymarket. A small number of services will depart from and terminate at the new Haymarket platform (platform 0) rather than Waverley from 27 December 2006. This means that if you are affected by the works, you should disembark at Haymarket, change platforms and board the next train bound for Waverley. You will be able to transfer to a Waverley service within a few minutes. It should take approximately three minutes to travel between Haymarket and Waverley. Network Rail, Transport Scotland and your train operating companies have worked hard to ensure as few services as possible are affected, particularly during peak times. The majority of services affected are to/from Fife, with one Stirling and one Carnoustie service also affected. This is because these trains come in at the north side of the station and the changes will allow us to operate the best possible services. Throughout this period, please allow extra time for your journey, especially if you are making a connection. Timetabling information First ScotRail will produce new timetables in early November for the period from December 2006 to May 2007, which will include more detailed information on altered services. This guide covers the first stage of works, commencing December 2006. See following pages for detailed information on all affected services. Please consult www.networkrail.co.uk/edinburgh or email waverleyinfrastructureworks@networkrail.co.uk and look out for signs and posters within stations for more information

Summary of other changes If you use the Newcraighall, North Berwick, West Calder and Bathgate services, you may also face some disruption during this construction work, which we summarise below. Newcraighall Bathgate Dunblane From 11 December 2006, there will be no through services linking Newcraighall to Bathgate and Dunblane. Instead, all Newcraighall-Bathgate-Dunblane services will terminate at Edinburgh Waverley and you will need to change trains for onward travel. Two exceptions will run as normal: 0626 Dunblane to Newcraighall and 0648 Newcraighall to Dunblane weekday services. North Berwick In addition, most services between Edinburgh and North Berwick will depart from and terminate at Waverley rather than Haymarket. The services which remain unaffected are as follows: 0758 and 1750 from North Berwick Monday-Friday and 0820 and 1520 on Saturdays; and 0824 and 1634 from Haymarket Monday- Friday and 0822 and 1634 on Saturdays. These services will run between North Berwick, Edinburgh and Glasgow Central in both directions. Bathgate Changes also apply to some of the Edinburgh-Bathgate services and you should consult the latest timetabling information for off-peak service times. The 0923 Bathgate to Edinburgh will depart from Livingston North at 0919 rather than from Bathgate Monday- Saturday. There will be a bus connection from Bathgate to Livingston North which departs at 0902. In addition, the 0848 Edinburgh to Bathgate service will terminate at Livingston North rather than Bathgate, and an onward bus connection to Bathgate will depart from Livingston North at 0920 and arrive at Bathgate at 0932. West Calder During the works, only two services will be cancelled: the 0737 and 0940 weekday services from West Calder to Edinburgh Waverley. All return services from Edinburgh to West Calder remain unaffected. First ScotRail timetables for December 2006 until May 2007 will be available at stations from early November. Details will also be available on the First ScotRail website www.firstscotrail.com General information Assisted travel We are happy to provide additional help to those who need it. As Haymarket station does not have a lift, we would advise disabled passengers to telephone First ScotRail in advance of travelling on 0845 605 7021. Staff will be on hand to assist with prams and pushchairs as required. Parking Parking at Haymarket station will be significantly reduced as a consequence of these works. There will be 62 spaces available, plus two disabled spaces. Tickets If you buy a ticket to either Edinburgh station, it will be valid for both Waverley and Haymarket. You will not need to pass through an electronic barrier if changing trains at Haymarket, but you will pass through a barrier when exiting either station.
