Unsurpassed Expertise From humble origins in the handcrafting of pianos and reed organs, Yamaha has grown steadily over the past century to encompass many diverse fields of endeavor. As a result of this diversity, and a concerted effort, we have accumulated an exceptionally broad spectrum of experience and know-how in areas ranging from woodworking, metallurgy and acoustics to chemistry, electronics, precision tooling and robotics. A rarity among piano makers, Yamaha managed to maintain total control over all aspects of design and production, producing and assembling virtually every part of the piano ourselves. Longstanding collaboration with performing artists and other music professionals has played an instrumental role in building and extending our piano-making expertise. Their invaluable input and feedback help fuel the continuing advances of our piano line. Uncompromising Artistry Relying on a delicate and complex balance of many interdependent factors, pianos demand the very highest levels of artisanship, technical proficiency and artistic sensibility to bring out their fullest potential. Yamaha piano artisans and technicians have honed their skills over generations, each passing on the benefits of his experience to those who follow. Yamaha recognised early on the perfect balance between handwork and mechanical automation to obtain optimal results. Certain operations, for example, can be performed more reliably and accurately through the use of precision tools and advance instrumentation, while for other tasks, there is simply no substitute for the hands-on skill and sesitivity of an expert artisan.
