Asa Philip Randolph Career Academies If there is a video or audio presentation by Dr. Vitti, we will play that during our morning announcements or during ELA classes. We will have a door decorating competition. The teachers will get students to plan and decorate their doors, using the theme as the foundation to build upon. Doors must be completed by at 3:25. Doors will be judged by an impartial group, and the winner will be announced on morning. Doors will remain decorated all week. Huffman will be in charge of this activity. Name that author. During the morning announcements, we will give a detailed description of an author, and students will have until lunch time to turn in their answers. The winner will receive a gift. Omega Smith will be in charge of this. Each ELA teacher will create 3 trivia questions about books and/or authors to use as a bell ringer. Each winner would receive candy and have their name announced over the PA system at the end of the day. All original poems, raps, or children s stories will be turned into ELA teachers by 3:25 on. Teachers will turn these into Omega Smith. A faculty member and at least one student will do a book talk on their favorite book over the PA system. During ELA classes, teachers may choose to have students do book talks. Students will design bookmarks and turn them into their ELA teachers who will give them to Mrs. Wade by the end of the day. A winner will be chosen and all book marks will be displayed in the Media center on. Submitted book marks will be judged by an impartial group, and the winner will be announced on during the morning Poetry, Rap, and Short Story Slam. The top winner in each category will be recognized and receive an award. Immediately after school, we will have a room set up like a coffee house. We will encourage students to dress like the 60 s for our poetry slam. Winners will read their winning entry and any other student who wants to read will be allowed to. The Slam will end at 4:45. Mrs. Buchanan is in charge of this. Shelfie Selfie Our teachers and administrators take a selfie and a picture of the book they are currently reading. These are displayed; and students and other employees must match the selfie to the correct book. We could set these up in the lunchroom or media center, and teachers could bring their students to the media center to vote, or students could vote during lunch, OR we could simply have a list of books and a list of teachers and students can match them, turn in the sheet and the student who matches the most correctly wins.
