Information for Submitting Articles to s & Journals The following are two charts useful for the law review/journal article submission process. The first chart contains information gathered from the journals websites about the following topics: Methods for submitting an article (such as by e-mail, ExpressO,, or regular mail); Any special formatting requirements; How to request an expedited review; and How to withdraw an article after it has been accepted for publication elsewhere. The second chart contains some information about rankings of the journals and the law schools associated with them. The first three columns are the overall ranking, academic/peer assessment score, and lawyer/judge assessment score for each school from the most recent U.S. News & World Report rankings. The other three columns are data about each journal from Washington & Lee s law review ranking website. The citation ranking is the total number of citations to the journal over the past eight years. The impact factor is the number of citations per article per year. The combined rating is a weighted combination of the total citations and impact factor rankings. You can find more detailed information about this data on the Washington & Lee website at http://lawlib.wlu.edu/lj. We hope this information is helpful. We provide it with several important caveats: o o o o First, the charts cover only general law reviews, not specialized journals. There are excellent specialized journals on many topics. Anyone submitting an article to law reviews will want to consider the specialized journals relevant to their article and particular area of expertise. The charts cover 202 schools and their journals. We have tried to be comprehensive; any omissions are inadvertent, and we d be happy to hear what we missed so that we can add them. We do not mean to imply anything about how much importance, if any, should be given to numerical rankings of law schools or law journals. These sorts of rankings are certainly an incomplete, if not badly flawed, way of evaluating schools and journals. We provide the ranking information because it is something that many people consider to some extent in the submission process. Obviously each author can decide what to make of it. The chart is based on the information provided on each journal s website. Some journals may have alternative methods of submission (such as ) that are not mentioned on their website and therefore not included here. We ve also posted a list of links to the submissions information on each law journal s website. That list can be found at http://www1.law.umkc.edu/faculty/rostron/law_review_submission.htm. For a helpful and more detailed discussion of the submission process and related issues for law professors, see Nancy Levit, Scholarship Advice for New Law Professors in the Electronic Age, 16 Widener L.J. 947 (2007), at http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=939007.
