DESTINATION: THEATRE DEPOT A Greeneville Theatre Guild Journey The MISSION of the Greeneville Theatre Guild is to enrich, entertain, and educate our community through high-quality theatrical productions.

91 9 BOARD 16 DIRECTORS A cto r s MEMBERS 3 COORDINATORS 100s OF VOLUNTEERS 8 Productions Greeneville Theatre Guild s Vision: To present a broad range of high-quality theatrical presentations. To involve an ever-growing number of volunteers in a supportive environment where they can participate and learn. To raise public awareness of the art of theatre. To operate with financial prudence. To collaborate with other organizations.

WHERE WE BEGAN There was a void in Greeneville... All around us were communities with vibrant community theatre organizations: Morristown, Jonesborough, Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol. Yes there were touring professional productions presented at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center. Yes there were theatrical presentations taking place at Tusculum College. But there was no community theatre organization in Greeneville itself. Many local actors traveled to other communities to participate in theatre. Many local citizens also traveled to other communities to attend theatre productions, often making restaurant and other purchases there as well.

2014 The Greeneville Theatre Guild (GTG) formed. Springing from large groups of interested citizens convened by Tusculum College Arts Outreach, a working group was formed to develop preliminary plans. Ultimately, this process led to a Board of Trustees officially bringing the organization into existence. WHERE WE ARE Filling the void... 2015 GTG produced two plays, renting the historic Capitol Theatre to present them to the public. In addition, we hosted a presentation of a world-premiere production from the Johnson City Community Theatre. 2016 GTG mounted a full season of five productions, continuing to rent the Capitol Theatre for public presentations. THE MISSION of the Greeneville Theatre Guild is to enrich, entertain, and educate our community through high-quality theatrical productions.

A local couple purchased the building at the corner of Depot and Cutler Streets in downtown Greeneville for the specific purpose of making it available to GTG at below-market rent. Given its location and purpose, we call it the Theatre Depot. While the building is in need of considerable renovation, with volunteer labor we quickly made portions of the building workable for set construction, rehearsal space, and costume and prop storage. It is wonderful to have our own home, even as we continue to rent the Capitol Theatre for public performances. Prudent oversight by the Board and prudent management by the all-volunteer staff have led the financial operations of GTG to be consistently in the black a remarkable achievement for any theatre company, especially for a brand new organization. We have the vision and stability to take the next step.

WHERE WE ARE Going OUR GOAL: Contribute to the revitalization of downtown Greeneville by establishing an intimate performance space in the Theatre Depot. This will allow us to: 1. Have a far greater range of scheduling options for productions, rather than having to work around the schedule of a rented facility. 4. Rehearse and perform in the same space, giving greater security to the actors, and allowing technical details to be readily worked out. 2. Produce more intimate shows with the audience 5. Produce shows more efficiently without having closer to the actors. This will make it much easier to dismantle, move, and re-assemble sets at a for patrons to hear and to perceive subtleties in secondary location. the actors portrayal of various characters. 6. Substantially reduce operating costs by 3. Provide a space in which GTG can conduct In addition to eliminating all the theatrical rental fees advantages, for a performance having facility. a vital the educational workshops and other events for the schedule of activities will contribute to a resurgent d community.

HOW WE WILL GET THERE The Steps to Reach Our Destination- Public Performances of GTG Productions in the Theatre Depot Create the needed physical spaces for performance, lobby, restrooms, green room, dressing rooms, control booth, scene shop Upgrade electrical service in the building Provide for adequate heating and air-conditioning Provide for audience seating Provide a theatrical lighting system Provide a theatrical sound system Furnish the lobby, ticket booth, restrooms, green room, etc. Acquire needed shop tools and theatrical equipment

Step One Acquire the materials needed for renovating and equipping the building. Step Two Secure the labor for installation of all of the materials. GTG will be able to organize volunteer labor to accomplish much of the work, while some specialized tasks will need to be handled by hiring qualified professionals. Step Three This is the step that makes the first two steps possible. GTG needs to acquire the funds to purchase materials and hire necessary professional labor in order to make a functioning performance space open to the public. This is distinct from the annual fund that supports the ongoing operations of GTG.

help us get home Ways to Play Your Role... After conferring with architects and engineers and evaluating the costs of various equipment systems, the Greeneville Theatre Guild Board of Trustees has set a Campaign Goal of $250,000. We believe this amount will enable GTG to purchase the materials and accomplish the needed work so that public performances at the Theatre Depot can become a reality. Although Greeneville is already blessed with a large performing space (NPAC-1100+ seats) and a medium-sized performing space (Capitol Theatre-300+ seats), the completion of the Theatre Depot equips our town with a more intimate performance space of 100+ seats. These venues are not in competition with each other, but complement one another in enriching the range of performances that can be brought to our community. In addition to the value of the performances themselves, having another active facility in downtown Greeneville will contribute to the on-going revitalization of the center of our town.

Your investment will not only make a significant difference in the operations of GTG, it will also make Greeneville a better community in which to live and work. Multiple Ways to Give A single one-time gift A monthly or annual pledge over the next 3 years Pool your gift with other friends or family members for a particular naming opportunity We look forward to meeting with you to discuss how you will join Greeneville Theatre Guild in Playing a Role in Our Community. Greeneville Theatre Guild is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization. Your contributions are tax deductible.
