LAMP + Power Supply + Frame/ Housing = Fixture Recessed round 6 aperture downlight with 3000K 32w Compact Fluorescent Lamp and electronic ballast. New construction frame-kit providing 50 visual cutoff to lamp image with Diffuse aluminum cone and white overlap flange.
LAMP Frame/ Housing Power Supply = Fixture Recessed round 4 aperture Integral downlight. LED module provides 1200 delivered lumens L70 at 3000K, 80+CRI using 18w input power. new construction framekit providing 50 visual cutoff to LED image with diffuse aluminum cone and white overlap flange. Manufacturer provided 5year warranty to include lumens and color shift.
LED efficacy
LM-80 Method for measuring lumen depreciation Applies to the LED package, array or module alone Can be performed only by EPA recognized lab Standard is used for Energy Star early qualification Provides flux over a 6,000hr period with interval measurements Measured at 55 C, 85 C & 3rd temp chosen by manufacturer
LM-79 Applies to the Entire LED luminaire system Can be performed only by EPA recognized lab Standard is used for Energy Star early qualification Measured at 25 C with limits on airflow, mounting, seasoning, etc. Measures- Total Luminous Flux Luminous Intensity Distribution Electrical Power Characteristics Luminous Efficacy (calculated) Color Characteristics (CRI, CCT, etc) Traditionally, photometric testing of lighting products was based on seperate tests for lamps and fixtures
Traditional Source Measuring MTBF is when 50% of lamps have failed MTBF vs LM-79
Color Temperature
Binning & MacAdam Ellipse The black line on the above diagram is commonly called the black body locus which represents white light along the color spectrum. LED Bins are ANSI defined at 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000k, etc. One step MacAdam ellipse is 60k or color variation
CRI & R-Values -CRI only measures the first 8 R-Values (pastels) -R9 can be the weakest for LEDs and is often the bellweather for good LED color -Some organizations are trying to set a minimum R9 value -Many Manufacturers have R9-R14 data from testing that they may provide
Color Consistancy Color Maintenance Color Shift -No Standard on Acceptible color shift over time -Everyone s LED system behaves differently -Data is not consistent from manufcturers
Organizations & Certifications
Organizations & Certifications international standard for energy efficient consumer products originated in the US in 1992 by the EPA and DOE. Since then, Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan and the European Union have adopted the program. Covers consumer lamps and commercial light fixtures Products must meet efficiency criteria, CRI and Physical Characteristics Fixtures (or lamps) must be submitted for idependent testing Includes 4,000hr Lumen Maintenance Test Process Can take 1 year
Organizations & Certifications Program of US DOE for LED Lighting products for general Illumination to provide standardized color, output and efficacy ratings to consumers Mostly geared toward end users for retail sales Nearly any LED product or lamp could request label May submit LM-79 & LM-80 testing done by qualified lab.
Organizations & Certifications Industry Association developing standards to encourage adoption of DC power distribution in commercial buildings. Began in 2009 focused on North America Emerge registered products meet published standard Third Party testing Lab must evaluate products for compliance Promotes quality, performance and energy efficient commercial lighting. Submitted fixtures must meet thresholds of lumen output, efficiency, CRI, color and warrenty as per each product category. Local utilities and municipalities sometimes require this certification for rebates, etc. May submit LM-79 & LM-80 testing done by qualified lab.
Organizations & Certifications Consortium of lighting companies founded in 2010 that develops specifications that will enable interchangeability of LED light sources made by different manufacturers. Have created 8 different books (so far) related to different form factors and power configurations Use Zhaga authorized test labs to verify compliance Voluntary Standard. No mandated use by government agency.
