Director: SCOTT SOWINSKI Musical Director: BRAD SENFFNER Artistic Director J.R. ROSE ruary 13,14,15 2015 SYNOPSIS: Winner of 5 Tony Awards in 2005, THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA takes place in Italy in the summer of 1953. Margaret Johnson, the wife of an American businessman, is touring the Tuscan countryside with her daughter, Clara. While sightseeing, Clara - a beautiful, surprisingly childish young woman-loses her hat in a sudden gust. As if guided by an unseen hand, the hat lands at the feet of Fabrizio Naccarelli, a handsome Florentine, who returns it to Clara. This brief episode, charged with coincidence and fate, sparks an immediate and intense romance between Clara and Fabrizio. Margaret, extremely protective of her daughter, attempts to keep Clara and Fabrizio apart. As THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA unfolds, a secret is revealed: in addition to the cultural differences between the young lovers, Clara is not quite all that she appears. Unable to suppress the truth about her daughter, Margaret is forced to reconsider not only Clara's future, but her own hopes as well. Show Synopsis & Information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/the_light_in_the_piazza_(musical) NOTE FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR: We are so pleased to present one of the greatest musicals in the contemporary musical theatre canon. We are even more excited to welcome guest director, Scott Sowinski to our team. Scott is a well-renowned professional actor and director and has great vision for what proves to be a stunning production of The Light in the Piazza. Our production is part of The Center s Cabaret series. It will feature onstage seating for the audience, inventive and non-traditional staging and use of space and light and stylized production values. The Light in the Piazza proves to be a powerful production in an intimate setting, sure to be a romantic treat this Valentine s Day weekend. Hope to see you at auditions, J.R. Rose Artistic Director, SLATE Theatre

You may sing from A Light in the Piazza, but are not required to. Memorize your audition piece, and, as we are not requiring a monologue please select a piece(s) that highlights your ability to act through song. Please bring music in the proper key, an accompanist will be provided. Accapella singing is NOT ALLOWED. If you wish to sing from A Light in the Piazza, you do not need sheet music, but be sure to check keys, as vocal selections and full scores are not always in the same key. There will be be no dance call. We may have you read small sides from the script if time allows. Please audition regardless of your conflicts. Rehearsals will be scheduled after the show is cast to accommodate conflicts. Just be honest, and we will work around your schedule the best we can.
