Open Call Theatertreffen Stückemarkt 2018 by Berliner Festspiele The Stückemarkt of the Berliner Theatertreffen is looking for innovative theatre languages and diverse forms of authorship. We invite theatre makers from all parts of Europe to apply by submitting their latest work. Submissions can be made both in the form of theatre texts or finished performances, the medium of language should be a main aspect of the work. In the midst of social upheaval, Stückemarkt sees itself as a venue for critical-aesthetic discourse and explores the political dimension of narratives. For 2018, we particularly welcome work that deals with the challenges of sharing (in) a divided world touching on questions of global inequality as well as sharing as a form of social practice. The Stückemarkt s jury of artists will select a total of five works from among the submissions. These will be presented as part of the Theatertreffen programme, in their respective form as staged readings, performances, lectures, site-specific work etc. One of the invited playwrights/performance groups will be awarded a commission by Stückemarkt in cooperation with the Federal Agency for Civic Education (Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung/bpb). An expert jury will debate the awarding of this commission in public. The award consists of 7,000 Euros and the opportunity to realize a production at a theatre in Germany. The Stückemarkt of the Theatertreffen is the oldest initiative promoting contemporary drama in German-speaking areas. For 39 years it has furthered innovation by discovering new voices for the theatre. Stückemarkt was the first funding programme of its kind to expand the concept of dramatic text in 2012 and included a variety of forms of theatre work in the competition.
