Sentence with contraction: I don t want to watch television. In the examples, the words do and not combined, dropping the letter o and adding an apostrophe ( ) to create the contraction don t.

Most sentences are written in the active voice with the subject at the beginning. Example: People grow soybeans. Notice the verb be as helping verb and the main verb, grow grow, in past participle form. Example: Soybeans are grown by people. The passive voice is preferred when the object of the action in a sentence is more important than the subject. Many times, the subject is not even included. Example: Soybeans are the most widely grown legumes in the world.
