Your Digital Access to the French Humanities

Cairn.info Created in 2005 by four Belgian and French publishers (De Boeck Supérieur, La Découverte, Belin and Éres), Cairn.info offers the most comprehensive online collection of French-language academic publications in humanities and social sciences from more than 130 publishing houses such as the Presses Universitaires de France, Armand Colin, Lavoisier, Gallimard, Le Seuil, La Documentation française, Vrin, Le Cerf, Editions de l EHESS, ENS, EDP, ESKA, Klincksieck, Les Belles Lettres and many others. In 2015, more than 400 journals, 4,000 ebooks and 1,300 pocket encyclopedias are available on www.cairn.info, providing students, scholars, researchers and librarians with an online access to more than 300,000 full-text articles and book chapters. Among the publications available on www.cairn.info, you will find a great number of prestigious French language academic journals and ebooks covering a wide array of disciplines such as literature, linguistics, philosophy, history, sociology, economics, political science, education, psychology and geography. Cairn International Edition Today, Cairn.info offers the most comprehensive online collection of publications in French in humanities and social sciences. To make this content more visible and accessible to non-francophone scholars, Cairn.info, with the support of the CNL (Centre national du livre [National Book Center]), has designed a special interface enabling users to browse and easily find content from French journals without the need to speak a word of French: http://www.cairn-int.info/. All current issues are listed and their tables of contents can be browsed freely in English. For all issues, users can access abstracts in English, as well as, when available, full-text versions in English.

Cairn s "Bouquets" Journals The journals available in digital format on Cairn.info are high-quality French language academic journals in all major fields of the social sciences and humanities: Les Annales, Esprit, Le Débat, Actes de la Recherche en Sciences Sociales, Hérodote, Revue française de science politique, Revue internationale et stratégique, Revue française de sociologie, Revue française de psychanalyse, Revue d histoire littéraire de la France, Politique étrangère, Vingtième siècle, etc. Unlimited access to the full content of those journals, from 2001 onwards, totalling more than 150,000 articles, is available through annual institutional subscriptions without any embargo on the print version. "Bouquet Général" (400 journals in 2015); "Bouquet Humanities & Social Sciences" (310 journals), including journals in literature, linguistics, philosophy, history, economics, politics, sociology, geography and law; "Bouquet EcoSocPol" (200 journals), including journals in economics, politics, sociology, geography and law; "Bouquet French Studies" (130 journals), including journals in literature, linguistics, philosophy and history; Cairn International Edition (85 journals), the English versions of major French journals available on Cairn.info.

Pocket Encyclopedias All titles from the two main French series of pocket encyclopedias, "Que sais-je?" (PUF) and "Repères" (La Découverte), are also available in full text on Cairn.info, i.e. around 1,300 books. Just like for journals, new titles and new editions are added as they become available to subscriptions offered to institutions on an annual basis: "Bouquet General» (around 1,300 encyclopedias); "Que sais-je?" series; "Repères" series. About the French Pocket Encyclopedias "Que sais-je?" "Que sais-je?", a prestigious series of pocket encyclopedias published since 1941 by the Presses universitaires de France (PUF), which has sold more than 160 million copies worlwide and has been translated into 143 languages. Subjects, ranging from the Inquisition to rugby, are covered by French experts in each field. "Repères" "Repères", a series of pocket encyclopedias published by La Découverte, covers broad contemporary social and economic issues from a rigorously scientific yet accessible point of view.

ebooks More than 4,000 research ebooks (monographs, proceedings, and collective works) from prestigious French and Belgian publishers Autrement, De Boeck, La Découverte, Éres, Éditions Mardaga, PUF, ENS, La Documentation française, Presses de Sciences Po and Quae are available on Cairn.info on the same terms as journals and encyclopedias, i.e. annual subscriptions with very flexible access conditions (unlimited access, on-site and remote access through IP authentication, unlimited print possibilities, etc.): "Bouquet Général" (all ebooks available in 2015, i.e. over 4,000 ebooks); "Bouquet EcoSocPol" (around 1,500 ebooks); "Bouquet French Studies" (around 600 ebooks). Magazines Cairn.info also offers access to 8 specialized magazines, primarily for students especially undergraduates and graduates but also teachers and researchers in the social sciences and humanities: Alternatives économiques, Alternatives internationales, Le Magazine littéraire, Le Monde diplomatique, L Histoire, Manière de voir, Sciences humaines, Les Grands Dossiers des Sciences Humaines. For each title, the "bouquet" available through Cairn.info includes, as for journals, all issues published since 2001. "Premium Bouquet" (8 magazines); "Standard Bouquet" (4 magazines: Alternatives économiques, Alternatives internationales, Sciences humaines, Les Grands Dossiers des Sciences Humaines). For any further information, please contact us at: licences@cairn.info

Technical Specifications Authentication Access is available via IP authentication for an unlimited number of concurrent users. Remote access through authentication mechanisms such as reverse proxy servers is allowed. Cairn supports Central Authentication Service (CAS) Single Signature Online protocol and is also Shibboleth-compliant in several countries. DOI Cairn.info has systematically acquired Digital Object Identifier (DOI) since 2008, for all journal articles released on www.cairn.info. This helps Cairn to automatically link articles containing citations from other articles, to implement direct links in article bibliographies or to activate functions such as the "quoted by" feature. Search Options Search forms support patterns and adjacency, as well as Boolean operators. Searches can be carried out by title, author, keywords, year of publication, discipline or title of publication: http://www.cairn.info/recherche_avancee.php. Searches can be refined through a facetted search engine (type, discipline, date, etc.) and results are available at the article/chapter level and by issue/book one. All journal articles are available in PDF and HTML formats, either online or to be downloaded and printed. Alerts Any user can ask for an e-mail alert on a journal or an author, so as to be automatically informed of new publications: http://www.cairn.info/mes_alertes.php. In addition, thematic RSS feeds enable users to follow any updates to the portal: http://www.cairn.info/abonnement_flux.php.

Federated Searching The site can be accessed through the main federated search and discovery tools. Cairn is also OpenURL-compliant. The site also supports the "get" method using a base URL (where X is the searched term): http://www.cairn.info/resultats_recherche.php?searchterm=x. Metadata Standards Cairn s metadata can be harvested freely through an OAI-PMH-compliant interface: http://oai.cairn.info, which also offers DUBLIN Core and METS formats. A specific website is also dedicated to ebooks and pocket encyclopedias, "La Boutique": http://laboutique.cairn.info, which enables librarians to follow these offers and to collect metadata in different formats: KBART-compliant CSV files and MARC records. Statistics and Customization COUNTER-compliant statistics reports are available online for all institutions which have subscribed to a license, through an administration tool: http://admin.cairn.info. This tool also enables librarians to customize Cairn for their audience: discipline, content available, activation/deactivation of pay-per-view possibilities, etc.
