SP2 Multi-Function Converter Supports various single link and dual link conversions. Four scalers support a myriad of re-sizing and rotation applications. Inputs may be asynchronous. All outputs are synchronous. Applications include: 4xSL (Stripe or Quad) > 2xDL conversion Left/Right or Top/Bottom 1080P video wall applications (2x2, rotated 3x1) Smart splitting (3072x768 > 3x1024x768) PIP with up to 3 windows within a 4 th input (1080P or less) Quad viewing of 4 inputs (I/O 1080P or less) Dual >> SL (down-sized or pixel-for-pixel window) (1) Dual TMDS Rcvr or (2) - SL (1) Dual TMDS Xmit or (2) -SL Mux Process De-Mux (1) Dual TMDS Rcvr or (2) - SL (1) Dual TMDS Xmit or (2) -SL 12 VDC Input and Power Conditioning Ethernet Control USB RS-232 SP2 Converter The SP2 converter provides miscellaneous conversions between various video formats. It also provides Area-of-interest control when changing resolutions, and broad PIP capability. The SP2 is configured via commands that are sent to the unit through the RS-232, Ethernet, or USB interface. Appropriate parameters are stored in non-volatile memory to retained desired settings. User Programmable Inputs / Outputs Commands define the input type and timing. The supported input types are Single Link (SL-) and Dual Link (DL-). The 4 channels are configurable as 4xSL- or 2x DL-. The supported output types are Single Link (SL-) and Dual Link (DL-). The 4 channels are configurable as 4xSL- or 2x DL-. Copyright 2017 Westar Display Technologies, Inc. I/O supports both standard and custom timings. All video must be non-interlaced. Configuration Commands Configuration Commands define: Input timing per channel Common output timing across all channels Input area of interest, scaling, and position within output Video rotation Specialized mappings, such as 2x2 quad to (4) stripe, or (4) stripe to 2x2 quad. Features Based on state-of-the-art processing technology, the SP2 capabilities include: Video Conversion and Synchronization (TMDS) inputs, single link or dual link Trademarks are property of their respective owners. Frame rate conversion; free running, gen-locked, or frame synced outputs. Gen-locked modes provide lowest possible latency. 4 x Single Link to 2 x Dual Link conversions to allow legacy video generation systems to work with new 4K monitors. Typically 4 quadrants to left half / right half. 2 x Dual Link to 4 x Single Link conversions to allow legacy displays to work with new video generation systems. Typically left half / right half to 4 quadrants, or left half / right half to (4) stripes. Scaling, Windowing, and Area-of-Interest Control Unlimited, independent horizontal and vertical scaling Programmable image position within a larger background or foreground area for each input Image can be reversed left to right and flipped top to bottom Image can be rotated 90, 180, or 270 degrees Video Combining PIP performed by mapping each input to a location within the background. Z-ordering provides priority by input. Programmable Remote interface for both initial configuration and, if required, dynamic operational control. All commands are defined in Command Line Description document RS-232, USB, and Ethernet interfaces are all standard. Display Interfaces 4 x SL TMDS output up to 1920x1200 each. Outputs may be configured as 4 vertical stripes or a 2x2 quadrant 2 x DL TMDS output up to 2Kx2K each. Special features EDID prom on each input channel, programmable via SP2 Configuration Utility. Ability to read EDID proms on the output channels. Getting Started with SP2 Our technical support team has ready-to-go configuration files that can be downloaded to the SP2 via from our SP2 Updater Application. Commands can be downloaded to the SP2 using commercially available terminal emulators such as Tera Term. All commands are defined in the Command Line description. A typical command is shown below: 1.1.1.1 Input Timing (INTIME) The input timing command parameters set up the input timing signals for video capture. If blank (ie []), params are routed to the currently active mode. With pre-loaded parameters, the SP2 can be configured for your particular application. In addition, commands can be sent to the SP2 dynamically for embedded applications requiring dynamic control. SP2 Utility software The SP2 is also supported with utility software to allow in-the-field firmware and FPGA updates. SP2 Operation Typically, the SP2 operates as follows: 1. Upon power up, the SP2 configures itself based on its internal BIOS. The BIOS includes various input definitions and an output definition (timing, electrical format, video combining definition, etc.) 2. If valid video is detected, the SP2 drives the display with that video per the output definition. If valid video is not detected, the SP2 drives a pre-defined color (blue-screen), or some other function as defined in the BIOS created with the configuration utility. SP Series 2 For applications requiring a rackmount enclosure, the SP2 may be housed in an enclosure and cabled per your unique requirements. Front View, SP Series 2 Rear View, SP Series 2 The SP Series 2 consists of the SP2 board, an enclosure with universal power supply, and cabling for your unique application, including appropriate SL and DL cables. The SP Series 2 Configuration number defines the cabling, enclosure, and power supply configuration. The ordering number is identified as SP2_Cxxx, where xxx is the Configuration number.
