THE ASTRA AWARDS recognise the wealth of talent that drives the Australian Subscription Television (STV) industry and highlights the creativity, commitment and the investment of Australian STV in production and broadcasting. Entries are sought from Australian STV channels and platforms. To be eligible for consideration programs must have premiered on Australian STV from 1 December 2013-30 November 2014. This call for entry document contains information about eligibility, conditions of entry and awards to be presented. Award Categories CHILDREN S PROGRAM of children s content. MUSIC PROGRAM of music programs. SPORTS PROGRAM of sports content. FACTUAL PROGRAM of factual programs. Factual programs are not constructed but, rather, portray or observe. NEWS PROGRAM Awarded for excellence in production Awarded for excellence in the production of news, current affairs and commentary content. REALITY PROGRAM of reality programs. Reality programs features ordinary people participating in constructed or observational situations or events. LIFESTYLE PROGRAM of lifestyle programs. Lifestyle programs typically relate to contemporary recreational and domestic pursuits such as food and wine, home and garden, real estate and home improvements, health and wellbeing, travel and leisure, beauty and shopping. GENERAL ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM Awarded for excellence in production Awarded for excellence in the production of general entertainment programs. General entertainment programs include variety shows, comedies, sketch shows, game shows, talk and entertainment programs, but exclude reality, Lifestyle, news, current affairs and commentary programs. DRAMA - AUSTRALIAN Awarded for excellence in drama programs that are produced in Australia. Drama programs include scripted series and telemovies, and can include drama programs with elements of comedy. DRAMA - INTERNATIONAL Awarded for excellence in drama programs that are not produced in Australia. Drama programs include scripted series and telemovies, and can include drama programs with elements of comedy.
Award Categories PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR - FEMALE Awarded for the most outstanding performance by a female actor in an Australian-produced scripted program that premieres on subscription television. PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR - MALE Awarded for the most outstanding performance by a male actor in an Australian-produced scripted program that premieres on subscription television. PRESENTER - FEMALE Awarded to the most outstanding Awarded for the most outstanding performance by a female presenter with an ongoing role in an Australian-produced program that premieres on subscription television. PRESENTER - MALE Awarded for the most outstanding performance by a male presenter with an ongoing role in an Australian-produced program that premieres on subscription television. PERFORMANCE BY A BROADCAST JOURNALIST Awarded to the most outstanding performance by a broadcast journalist with an ongoing role in an Australian-produced program that premieres on subscription television. NEW TALENT Awarded for the most outstanding actor, reporter or presenter who has made their major television debut in an Australian produced program that premieres on subscription television. The person must have featured in at least three episodes or programs as the same character, reporter or presenter. CHANNEL OF THE YEAR Awarded to the most outstanding Australian subscription television channel of the year. CHANNEL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Awarded to the independently owned and small subscription television channel that has achieved the most success in the past year in the form of improved ratings, increased production of Australian content, successful development of new formats, improved engagement with the community, or other successes that demonstrate the diversity and creativity of subscription television content. How to Enter STEP 1. DETERMINE ELIGIBILITY Unless stated otherwise, awards for programs are open to content produced anywhere in the world, provided the program appeared on Australian subscription television between 1 December 2013 and 30 November 2014. Awards for individuals are open to any person, irrespective of where they were born, provided they have an ongoing role with an Australian-based subscription television program or channel. If successful the award must be accepted by high profile participants in the entry, preferably on-air talent, who can attend the awards presentation. Organisations who are unable to provide these participants should not enter. STEP 2. CHOOSE THE MOST APPROPRIATE CATEGORY Pick a category that best describes your program and or talent. Programs may only be submitted into one category. Entries must be typed into the appropriate text boxes and not uploaded as an attachment. Each text box has a 100 word limit that can not be exceeded, with exception to the Channel Achievement category. STEP 3. PREPARE RELEVANT SUPPORTING MATERIALS Entrants may provide a variety of materials (vision, radio, photo s etc) in a montage/showreel format. Material is to be limited to 3 minutes and not exceed 10MB. Footage must not included bugs or graphic overlays as this may be used in the Awards presentation and broadcast. Should you be selected as a finalist, you will be required at that stage to supply your entry on digi beta tape for the Awards show. When submitting your entry, please include the following materials: Image 1. Channel / Network broadcast logo in full colour (high res Illustrator EPS file) 2. Channel / Network logo in full colour (300dpi JPG) 3. Program broadcast logo in full colour (high res Illustrator EPS file) 4. Program logo in full colour (300 dpi JPG) 5. PERSONALITY (individual) / PROGRAM (cast/group) hero image (300dpi full colour JPG, min height 5cm, portrait orientation, as close-up as possible) 6. PERSONALITY (individual) / PROGRAM (cast/group) hero image thumbnail (72dpi full colour JPG, 80 pixels x 80 pixels) These materials will be used should your entry be selected as a finalist. Please ensure these materials have been approved by the Channel Manager as you will not be given the opportunity to change at a later date. STEP 4. PAYMENT Payment for your entry ($324.50 including GST) will be the final step in the online entry process. Terms & Conditions By entering in the 2015 ASTRA Awards, submitting entrants agree to the following rules and conditions of entry: The decision of the judges is final; no correspondence will be entered into. Scores and comments for individual entries will not be disclosed. Judges reserve the right to move entries between award categories. Incomplete entries or entries that are ineligible (based on the criteria outlined in each award category) may not be considered for judging. Entry fees will not be refunded. More than one entry may be submitted by an entering organisation in any given category. Submitting organisations warrant that all entries concern productions, programs, campaigns, talent or contributions relevant to Australian STV during the period 1 December 2013-30 November 2014. Award entries received after 4pm, Friday 28 November 2014 will not be eligible for consideration. The entrant agrees that ASTRA and the ASTRA Award organisers are indemnified for any error, omission, loss or damage. Entries accepted as a submission will be retained by ASTRA. The entrant grants ASTRA permission to broadcast (on STV in Australia), publish or publicly show entries and supporting material at such times as ASTRA deems appropriate. Entrants warrant that they have obtained all rights, permissions and clearances necessary for ASTRA to publish (either in print or on the internet), broadcast (on STV in Australia), publicly show the entries and supporting material. It also confirms that this material may be provided to the National Film and Sound Archive for archiving purposes. Under no circumstances shall the entrant or anyone claiming through or acting on behalf of the entrant, require the payment of any royalty by ASTRA in respect of the use by it of such entries or materials for any purpose. The entrant indemnifies ASTRA against all losses, damages, liabilities, claims, costs and expenses (including legal costs) arising out of any claim by any holder of any rights in the entry.
