Intrductin INTRODUCTION The LadMan LM310 is a precisin instrument capable f running and cntrlling many different vehicle weight measurement applicatins. The Applicatin Sftware dcumented in this manual supprts LadMan s Weigh-In- Mtin Cart Lifter Weighing Systems. These Weighing Systems are usually munted n vehicles that weigh residential carts in mtin as they are picked up, dumped, and lwered t the grund. The LadMan system is cmpletely autmatic and the driver/peratr des nt need t press any buttns r take any actins t btain a weight reading. The 16 character display prvides all the infrmatin needed t understand the status f the weighing system. Fr example, the meter autmatically prvides the fllwing instructin displays during the weigh-in-mtin prcess: READY TO WEIGH WEIGHING LOAD GROSS WEIGHT DUMP LOAD WEIGHING TARE NET WEIGHT TRUCK The cart lifter arm is belw the start f the weighing windw and the system is ready t begin weighing. Message while cart is lifted up thrugh the weighing windw. Displays weight f the cart and its grss lad weight. Weighing is cmplete and lad is ready t dump. The grss lad weight measured ging up is still displayed. Measuring the empty cart weight while cart is cming dwn. Displays the cmputed net weight f the dumped material. Displays the accumulated lad net weight that has been dumped int the truck. LM310 An nbard in-cab-meter fr displaying weight, rute and system infrmatin. ARM310 A cmputer based arm weigh-in-mtin assembly munted n 7

Intrductin the arm f the cart lifter (blted t the lift arm f the cart lifter). CART310 -- A cart weigh-in-mtin assembly munted between the tw munting plates which supprt the cart lifter assembly. Figure 1. ARM310 Cnnected with CART310 The CART310 weigh-in-mtin assembly cnverts the sensitive analg data signals frm the tw cart lifter ladcells t digital, using a precisin digital t analg encder called a CanCder. It als receives the angular psitin f the cart lifter arms measured by the ARM310 alng with speed; cnverts the infrmatin t digital, and transmits the data up the LM310 meter fr display and prcessing. The ARM310 weigh-in-mtin assembly als cntains an angle sensr; s the weighing system nt nly knws the psitin and speed f the cart lifter, but als the angular psitin and speed f the lift mechanism at all times. The CART310 cart bx cmputer gathers the weight measurement frm the cart lifter ladcells, the lift arms angular psitin and speed frm the ARM310. It then prcesses this infrmatin t determine the weight f the cart plus its cntents while ging up (grss weight). Then, in the same manner, measures the tare weight f the cart ging dwn. The difference between these tw weights determines the net weight f the material that was dumped int the truck (NET). All f this infrmatin is transmitted t the LM310 in-cab meter and displayed t the driver/peratr. The lad data recrd can wirelessly transmit t LadMan s 8

Intrductin Lad Management Sftware if the data cllectin sftware is perating in the back ffice. LadMan's Lad Management Sftware allws remte tracking f trucks, drivers, custmers, rutes and prducts by accunt r jb. Rute lists are created with the sftware and dwnladed t the LadMan meter. Any recrded lad data and/r GPS psitin data in LadMan s data cllectin memry will be autmatically transferred t the Lad Management Sftware - withut any prmpting r interventin frm the driver whenever a wireless mdem r wireless Bluetth cnnectin is established between the truck s LM310 cmputer and the back ffice sftware. 9

Rute Infrmatin Displays While in the Nrmal Operating Mde, LadMan presents varius ptinal displays that can be cnfigured in the INSTALL/SET DISPLAYS grup f the Setup & Calibratin cmmands (see the sectin n Setup & Cnfiguratin Mde fr instructins n chsing ptinal status displays). LOAD NAME & ACCOUNT # Cnfiguring these tw ptinal displays allws the peratr t display, select and recrd a Lad Name and its assciated Accunt Number fr every lad in a pickup rute. This display functin can be turned n r ff by using the INSTALL/SET DISPLAYS/FLASH LDNAME, FLASH ACCT# and FLASH STOP# cmmands in the Setup & Calibratin Mde. When these ptins are turned n, the Lad Name, Accunt Number and/r Stp Numbers will flash n the LadMan display. This helps the driver identify the pickup accunt. When enabled, up t 940 sixteen unique alphanumeric character lad names alng with their assciated seven digit accunt numbers can be dwnladed frm LadMan s Lad Manager Sftware. The Stp Number is the sequence number the pickups were laded int LadMan frm Lad Manager Sftware. Lad Manager Sftware uses varius cmmunicatin methds (such as wireless Bluetth r cellular mdem) t cnnect and dwnlad rute and accunt infrmatin. When the Lad Manager sftware dwnlads rute infrmatin t the LadMan meter, the number f Lad Names, Accunt Numbers and Stp Numbers are set autmatically. The lad name, accunt number and stp number cmbinatin is tied t each lad t be picked up n the peratr s rute. When a lad is recrded cnfirmed by the RECORDING LOAD infrmatin display message the currently displayed lad name, accunt number and stp number are recrded int LadMan s data cllectin memry. After all f the lad and rute infrmatin is recrded, LadMan autmatically sequences t the next lad name/accunt number in the rute list (if enabled with the SET 27

Nrmal Operating Mde RECORD Optin f the Setup and Calibratin Mde). Unexpected departures frm the planned sequence in the rute list can be managed using the PROGRAM grup f keys t select an ut f sequence stp and lad r by using accunt barcdes frm a Rute Sheet. Use Ge Ruting Mde t nly display thse accunts within defined radius (300 t 1000 feet) f the Trucks lcatin. Refer t the sectin Cllecting Lad Data fr details. STOP # xxx In additin t the ptinal Lad Name and Accunt Number, every lad has a Stp Number (#) that is recrded in LadMan s data cllectin memry whenever a lad is recrded. The Stp Number represents the sequence in the rute list f Lad Names and Accunt Numbers that have been dwnladed by the LadMan Lad Management Sftware. The Stp Number is prgrammable and allws the peratr t select accunts by prgramming any stp number that has been previusly laded int its memry frm Lad Manager Sftware. Each time a lad is recrded, LadMan autmatically increments the stp number (if enabled with the INSTALL/SET RECORD/INCR STOP# cmmand). This ptinal display functin can be setup t flash during a weight display using the INSTALL/SET DISPLAYS/FLASH STOP# cmmand in the Setup & Calibratin Mde. Use the PROGRAM prgramming key t chse YES, and cnfirm with the SET PROGRAM key. SAVING ZERO DATA Wait fr LadMan t prcess befre activating any further keys. 8. Calibrate System Under Lad LEARN SPAN? Learn Span is the prcess f custm learning the calibratin f the cart tipper s ladcells. This is accmplished by a series f lifts (12-15 lifts are recmmended). Withut this prcedure the ladcell measurements culd be inaccurate and misleading. The prcess is quite simple. Just fllw the LadMan display instructins: Activate LEARN SPAN with the SET PROGRAM key. ENTER SPAN CAL (Factry default is 400LB). Press SELECT key t cntinue. ENTER CAL LOAD This is the calibrated weight f a cart laded with a knwn scale weight frm anther calibrated scale. This lad shuld be tightly secured within the cart fr safety, and t make certain there is n abrupt buncing f the cntainer s cntents during the calibratin prcedure. Use the / PROGRAM prgramming keys t enter the weight reading btained frm the calibrated scale. Press the SET PROGRAM key t save, and press SELECT key t cntinue. LadMan will respnd with LOAD CAL WEIGHT! and has initiated the LEARN SPAN calibratin prcess: RAISE ARMS! LEARNING SPAN UP LOWER ARMS! LEARNING SPAN DN 71

Initial Startup and Calibratin Prcedures CYCLES Displays the number f LEARN cycles cmpleted. The abve prcess shuld be repeated frm 12-15 times t allw LadMan t fully determine each ladcell s span; fine tuning the calibratin f each ladcell. When finished repeating this prcess 12 t 15 times, simply let the cart lifter rest at zer. LadMan will prvide screen instructins t cmplete the LEARN prcess: UPSELECT IF DONE - SELECT. SAVE SPAN? Use the PROGRAM prgramming key t chse YES, and cnfirm with the SET PROGRAM key. SAVING SPAN DATA Wait fr LadMan t prcess befre activating any further keys this may take few mments. Calibrate System fr ZERO CART LIFTER LOAD Begin this step by entering the INSTALL sectin f the Setup & Calibratin Mde and prgram the LadMan meter t SHOW NEGATIVE WEIGHTS by chsing YES. (Later, after cmpleting this calibratin, the meter can be reprgrammed t hide negative net weights if desired.) In rder t btain the mst accurate calibratin results, advance frward t the INSTALL/SET DISPLAYS sectin and set the COUNT BY value t ne (1); using the PROGRAM key t chse 1, and activate with the SET key. Remve any cart ff the cart lifter, EXIT SETUP, and return t nrmal perating mde. With LadMan shwing READY TO WEIGH, press the SELECT key t find the PROGRAM FUNCTION display. Press the PROGRAM key t lcate the ZERO CART LOAD display; press SET t activate; and fllw this prcedure: LadMan starts this prcess with the messages REMOVE CART LOAD and SET ARM ANGLE = 0. Psitin the cart lifter arms until the arm angle is within a degree f zer. LadMan will prvide instant feedback n the current Arm± angle. When the arm angle is within a degree f zer fr a cuple mments, LadMan stps prviding ± angle feedback and displays ZERO COMPLETE indicating the prcess cmpleted successfully. Try a few lifts with n cart n the cart lifter and yu shuld read zer ging up and zer cming dwn r very clse t that. 72

Initial Startup and Calibratin Prcedures Calibrate System fr ZERO CART LIFTER LOAD Switch LadMan als features a ZERO CART LOAD switch that is munted n the left utside plate f the cart lifter scales. This light/switch allws the peratr t wrk at the rear f the truck, reading the green strbe light while leveling the cart arm angle t zer. Depressing this switch initiates the zer lad prcess that was just described abve. And it als features a green light strbe that prvides real-time feedback n the cart angle. The clser the angle t zer, the faster the light flashes. And when the frk angle is between 0 and +/-1, the light will hld steady. When finished, the light prvides a high frequency chattering strbe indicated that the Zer Weight is calibrated accurately. When finished, depress the switch t turn ff the light and the zering prcess. Calibrate Cart Lifter Grss Ging Up Verify that the cart lifter lad measured ging up is calibrated t zer. Begin this prcess in the READY TO WEIGH state. With n lad n the cart lifter, slwly raise the cart lifter arms thrugh the weighing windw t verify if the GROSS xxxxx LB measurement ging up is zer. Perfrm several slw lifts ging up t find an average grss weight. If zer, then skip this next calibratin step. If the average grss weight ging up is nt zer, the meter shuld be finetuned t allw fr the variance frm zer. G t the TROUBLESHOOT sectin f the Setup & Calibratin Mde and chse the sectin titled TROUBLE CAL. This calibratin adjustment will ALWAYS be listed in punds even when LadMan is using KG in the nrmal perating mde. Fine tune the ZEROUpCAL setting t accunt fr the average grss 73

Initial Startup and Calibratin Prcedures weight variance. Fr example, if the average grss weight is +10 LB ging up, then increase the ZEROUpCAL by 10 cunts frm the current setting. (In KG mde, change the cunt 2.2X larger than the LB mde value displayed.) Fr this example prgram ZEROUpCAL t 10 using the PROGRAM keys, and activate with the SET key. After prgramming the adjustment EXIT SETUP; return t the READY TO WEIGH state. Verify that the GROSS xxxxx LB averages zer (0) ver several slw test weights. Repeat this prcess until an average reading f zer is measured. Calibrate Cart Lifter Net Ging Dwn After LadMan returns t the READY TO WEIGH display, verify if the arm lad ging dwn is calibrated t zer: With n lad n the cart lifter, slwly raise, and then very slwly lwer the arms thrugh the weigh-in-mtin windw t verify if the NET xxxxx LB measurement ging dwn is zer. D several measurements ging dwn t find an average net weight. If zer, then skip this next calibratin step. If the average net weight ging dwn is nt zer, the meter shuld be finetuned t allw fr the variance frm zer. G t the TROUBLESHOOT sectin f the Setup & Calibratin Mde and chse the sectin titled TROUBLE CAL. This calibratin adjustment will ALWAYS be listed in punds even when LadMan is using KG in the nrmal perating mde. Fine tune the ZERODnCAL setting t accunt fr the average net weight variance. Fr example, if the average net weight is +10 LB ging dwn, then adjust the ZERODnCAL 10 cunts frm the current setting. (In KG mde, change the cunt 2.2X larger than the LB mde.) Fr this example, prgram ZERODnCAL t 10 (ten) 10 using the PROGRAM keys, and activate with the SET key. After prgramming the adjustment, EXIT SETUP; and return t the 74

Initial Startup and Calibratin Prcedures READY TO WEIGH state. Verify that the NET xxxxx LB averages zer (0) ver several slw test weights. 9. Fine Tune Span Adjust This step requires a laded cart with a knwn weight; s have a cart weighed n a knwn accurate scale. The cart shuld be laded with a gd size weight that represents at least 80% f the cart lifter s capacity. This lad shuld be tightly secured within the cart fr safety, and t make certain there is n abrupt buncing f the cntainer s cntents during the calibratin prcedure. When LadMan is READY TO WEIGH, pick up the laded cntainer and mve thrugh the weigh-in-mtin windw at a slw speed. D this several times t btain the average GROSS xxxxx LB reading ging up and nte this average grss weight reading. Next, perfrm a span truck calibratin prcess. Use the PROGRAM key t select SPAN TRUCK? and activate with the SET PROGRAM key. LadMan respnds with directins t ENTER METER LOAD. Use the prgramming keys t enter the average f weight readings that were just btained frm the LadMan meter. Press the SET PROGRAM key t save. Press the SELECT key and LadMan will respnd with the directins, ENTER CAL LOAD. Use the prgramming keys t enter the weight reading btained frm the calibrated scale. Press the SET PROGRAM key t save. Nw press the SELECT key and LadMan will respnd with the directins, DO AUTOCAL?-->NO. This display is cnfirming that the weights have been entered prperly. T cnfirm that the weight entries are crrect, select YES and press SET. LadMan will nw cmplete the SPAN calibratin and cnfirm with, DOING SPAN ADJUST and SPAN COMPLETE!. EXIT SETUP and return t the READY TO WEIGH state. At the READY TO WEIGH state, slwly pick up an empty cntainer and mve up thrugh the weigh-in-mtin windw. 75

Initial Startup and Calibratin Prcedures Lwer the cntainer dwn thrugh the weigh-in-mtin windw at the slwest speed. D this several times t btain an average NET xxxxx LB reading ging dwn. If the NET reading is nt zer (0) then use t the TROUBLE CAL sectin f the TROUBLESHOOT Setup & Calibratin categry t either increase r decrease the SPANDnCAL value t crrect the errr using the rati calculatin: Rati = Grss Weight Ging Up (Grss Weight Up Net Weight Dwn) Fr example, if the average ging dwn NET weight reading is +20 LB and the average ging up GROSS reading was 720 LB, then the system ging dwn is measuring nly 720-20 = 700 LB. S the SPANDnCAL value needs t be adjusted by the rati: 720 700 = 1.02857 Reprgram SPANDnCAL by multiplying the current SPANDnCAL value times(x) the weight rati. Then EXIT SETUP. Cntinue this calibratin prcess until the weights ging up and ging dwn are equal, and the empty cart NET xxxxx LB reading is zer (0). Once this calibratin prcedure is cmpleted, the SPANUpCAL and the SPANDnCAL values may nt be equal, but they shuld nt be different by mre than 500 cunts fr a system that is perating prperly. REMINDER During these calibratin prcedures, COUNT BY was prgrammed t 1 and SHOW NEGATIVE WTS was set t YES. Reprgram either r bth these values (if desired) fr the nrmal perating f the weighing system. 76

Trubleshting Guide TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE This sectin f the manual prvides a guide t trubleshting cmmn issues with the LadMan Cart Lifter Weigh-In-Mtin System. It is assumed that the reader has already becme familiar with using the prgramming keys and understands hw t access Setup & Calibratin functins that are all detailed in the chapter titled Setup & Calibratin Mde. LadMan must receive all sensr signals in rder t display the valid weighing display message READY TO WEIGH. The fur sensr signals are: Left Cart Ladcell Signal Right Cart Ladcell Signal Cart Arm Angle Sensr Signal If any f these signals are nt detected, then LadMan suspends all weighing functins and enters int a Trubleshting Diagnstic Mde. When LadMan enters this mde, ne t three diagnstic messages will be displayed: NO ARM SENSOR! r ARM SENSOR OK! NO RGHTCART SIG! r RGHTCART SIG OK! NO LEFTCART SIG! r LEFTCART SIG OK! 1. NO ARM SENSOR! This message is displayed when there is n cmmunicatin t the arm weigh-inmtin sensr. The arm weigh-in-mtin assembly (ARM310) cntains a micrcmputer and arm angle sensr. The micrcmputer cmmunicates the cart lifter arm angle measurement t the LadMan CART310 bx munted between the cart lifter plates. The CART310 sends all the results t the in-cab meter fr prcessing and display. If LadMan cannt detect the arm assembly micrcmputer, then there are three pssible surces t the prblem: 77

Trubleshting Guide a) The cable cnnectin frm the CART310 Bx t the arm weigh-inmtin assembly bx has failed r is nt cnnected. b) The arm weigh-in-mtin assembly has failed. This unit is a ptted assembly t survive harsh utdr envirnments. The unit is nt fieldrepairable and must be replaced r rebuilt. c) The LadMan meter has failed. The meter is nt a field-repairable fr this type f cmmunicatin failure. It must be replaced with a new r rebuilt unit. 2. NO LEFTCART SIG! and NO RGHTCART SIG! If these tw messages are displayed, first make certain that the cable cnnecting the LM310 Ladman Meter is prperly cnnected t the CART 310 Bx munted between the cart lifter plates. a) The CART310 weigh-in-mtin assembly cntains the digital t analg cnverters fr bth the right and left cart lifter ladcells and receives the cart lifter arm angle frm the arm sensr bx (ARM310) munted n the cart lifter arms. Check the cable that cnnects the LadMan meter (LM310) t the CART310 bx munted between the cart lifter munting plates. b) If the cables are cnnected securely, then check the cable harness fr damage and perfrm a cntinuity check. c) If the cable is OK but the messages NO LEFTCART SIG! and NO RGHTCART SIG! still display: Attempt t discnnect bth ladcell cables that plugged int the CART310 weigh-in-mtin bx t eliminate a fault in ne r bth f the ladcells. If after unplugging bth ladcells the messages NO LEFTCART SIG! and NO RGHTCART SIG! still displays, then the CART310 weigh-inmtin bx has mst likely failed r the LadMan Meter (LM310). The CART310 weigh-in-mtin mdule is a ptted assembly t survive harsh utdr envirnments. The unit is nt field-repairable and must be replaced r rebuilt. 78

Trubleshting Guide 3. NO LEFTCART SIG! but RGHTCART SIG OK! LEFTCART SIG OK! but NO RGHTCART SIG If ne f the ladcell signals is present but the ther is nt, then it is mst likely that ne f the ladcells has failed. Swap the tw ladcells n the weigh-inmtin assembly and see if the errr message reverses. If it des, then ne f the ladcells has failed. Swap the ladcells again t make certain which ladcell has failed. When islated, replace the failed ladcell. 4. Lad Measurements Inaccurate Lad measurements that are nt repeatable r are inaccurate can be traced t ne f the fllwing: One r bth ladcells have failed. The CART310 digital t analg cnverter (CanCder) has failed. Cart arm angle measurements are faulty. Check Ladcell Respnse and CART310 CanCder Press the PROGRAM key t lcate the TROUBLE LOADCELL ptin and press the SET key t activate. Press SELECT t display CH1 xxxx.x LB where xxxxx.x is the current weight reading f the CH1 ladcell. Mve the cart lifter t zer arm angle, which will cause the plates t be in a vertical psitin. The CH1 lad shuld read near zer (0) weight Pick up an empty cntainer and verify that the ladcell respnds in a psitive directin. If the ladcell respnds in a negative directin under lad, then swap the ladcell cnnectrs n the CART310 Bx as they are cnnected t the wrng ladcell cnnectrs. If the ladcell reading is buncing hundreds (100 s) f cunts, drifting, r will nt repeat the same reading under a given cntainer lad, then: either the ladcell has failed; r the cart lifter CART310 weigh-in-mtin analg t digital cnverter has failed; r a ladcell cable has been damaged; r the cnnectr is lse and has misture/dirt in the cntacts. Check fr damaged ladcell cables r dirty cntacts. If the cntacts are dirty then the pins shuld be cleaned with isprpyl alchl and a Q-tip. The signals n these pins are n the rder f less than ne millinth f a 79

Trubleshting Guide vlt s any film residue r misture n the cntacts can cause the ladcell signals t drift wildly. If the prblem persists after cleaning the cntacts then the Cart310 CanCder weigh-in-mtin bx shuld be replaced. If replacing the Cart310 weigh-in-mtin bx des nt fix the prblem then the ladcells shuld be replaced. Press SELECT t display the message, CH2 xxxx.x LB and repeat the abve prcedure fr the CH2 ladcell. Checking Cart Lifter Arm Angle Measurements LadMan relies heavily n the accuracy f the cart lifter arm angle measurement t determine accurate weight measurement results. The ladcell weight measurement respnse is influenced by the cart lifter arm angle. Any errr in the arm angle will have a majr effect n the verall accuracy f the weighing system. Furthermre, the arm angle infrms LadMan when t lk at the cart lifter ladcell signals. Any errr in the arm angle can cause LadMan t lk at the ladcell weight measurement respnse in the wrng part f the weighing cycle. T check n the arm angle calibratin: While still in the TROUBLE POSITION ptin f the TROUBLESHOOT Setup & Calibratin categry, view the current arm angle, ARMS xxxx.x DEG. The arm angle shuld read zer degrees when the cart lifter has lifted the cart ff the grund near a ft. If nt, then gt t step 5 f the Initial Startup and Calibratin Prcedures and fllw the directins fr calibrating the arm angle. 80

Cllecting Lad Data COLLECTING LOAD DATA When a lad is recrded, lad data is stred int LadMan s data cllectin memry. The lad infrmatin is recrded and stred as shwn in Table 12. LOAD DATA Table 12. Use the rute schedule t find the stp number f the accunt that needs cllected and recrded ut-f-sequence. Then use the SELECT and PROGRAM frnt panel keys t select the new stp number befre recrding a lad. Fr example, LadMan is currently displaying STOP #45, but instead, STOP #198 needs t be cllected and recrded. Using the / SELECT keys, lcate the STOP # display; then use the / PROGRAM keys t change #45 t #198. This will direct LadMan t g directly t Stp #198 and the crrespnding lad name and accunt number fr the stp. If a stp number is entered that is nt fund in the rute list (i.e., a stp number that is higher than any n the list) then LadMan will display the highest stp number in the rute list. Prgramming the ACCOUNT # Display If the accunt number is knwn, use the SELECT and PROGRAM frnt panel keys t enter the accunt number befre recrding the lad. Then, when the SET PROGRAM key is pressed, LadMan will search the dwnladed rute list fr the entered accunt number. If the accunt number is fund in the dwnladed rute list, LadMan will display/cnfirm with the assciated stp number and accunt number. If the accunt number is nt fund in the dwnladed rute list, then LadMan autmatically creates the new accunt and displays the message CREATING ACCOUNT ; fllwed by the display f a new stp number and the newly created accunt number. The new stp number will be added t the dwnladed rute list, alng with the new accunt number, and a newly created lad name UNPLANNED STOP XX ; where XX represents the number f unplanned stps in memry. This new stp number, accunt number and lad name will be added after the last stp in the currently dwnladed rute list. Selecting a Lad Name Using the LOAD NAME Display T select a specific lad name frm the list f dwnladed rute lad names, first use the / SELECT keys t lcate the current LOAD NAME display.
