20 Take a trip out to Hawkshead. Latterbarrow is a popular fell near the village with a large stone column at the summit, and this walk gives you inspiring views of a range of higher fells down Esthwaite Water and around Lake Windermere. Best to allow 2-3 hours for this, including rests. Find a map of the route on our website. how to get there Catch bus 505 at 1048 from Ambleside and get off at the Tourist Information Centre in Hawkshead. Turn right onto Main Street and head towards the Post Office and start of the walk. When you get back, wander through the small lanes of Hawkshead - they re charming - and stop at The Kings Arms Hotel on Flag Street for a light snack, if you fancy it. Complete your visit by popping into the Beatrix Potter Gallery, a 17th-century stone-built house dedicated to showcasing the original book illustrations of Beatrix Potter.
