Input Setup Below are the necessary settings for input of the QHD or QSD multiplexes. Make the appropriate selections for each item as indicated below. Setup: Inputs Unit ID : Enter an ID from 0-20 to identify your device. RS232 Baud Rate: 4800 SAT 1 Freq: Select the appropriate transponder combination for this input QSD 1,2; QSD 3,4; QSD 5/QHD 11 QSD 7,8 ; QSD 9,10 ; QSD 11,12 ; QSD 13,14 QHD 1,2 ; QHD 3,4 ; QHD 5,6 ; QHD 7,8 SAT 1 LNB: Select the appropriate status for your systems needs. SAT 2 Freq: Select the appropriate transponder combination for this input QSD 1,2; QSD 3,4; QSD 5/QHD 11 QSD 7,8 ; QSD 9,10 ; QSD 11,12 ; QSD13,14 QHD 1,2 ; QHD 3,4 ; QHD 5,6 ; QHD 7,8 SAT 2 LNB: Select the appropriate status for your systems needs. Firmware Upgrade Instructions for Drake SCT 2X4 Used by HITS QT/QT+ 2 Satellite/4 Multiplexes Preparing to Upgrade Firmware: In order to use the Drake SCT 2x4 units for the new HITS 256 QAM DVB-S2 Quantum SD lineup, it may be necessary to complete a firmware upgrade to the latest version SCT 2x4 V2.4H. If you have verified that your device is at the current version, you can proceed without completing the firmware upgrade. Required to complete the upgrade: Drake Headend Control Program A straight-thru serial cable Computer with a serial port or a USB-to-serial adapter Download Drake 2x4 Firmware upgrade v2.4h You will need to download and install the Drake Headend Control program on the PC that you will use to upgrade the firmware on the Drake SCT 2x4 unit. (See Instructions in the next section on how to do this if you have not done so previously) Click on the following link or cut and paste into your browser to download the newest code version: http://tinyurl.com/sct2x4- HITS- firmware Once you have downloaded the newest firmware you will need to unzip the file and copy its contents to the Drake Control Program folder.
Download Drake Headend Control Program: You will need to download and install the Drake Headend Control program on the PC that you will use to upgrade the firmware on the Drake SCT 2x4 unit. (Please note: You will only need to download program once.) Click on the following link or cut and paste into your browser to begin the install: http://tinyurl.com/28o5f4d Depending on your browser (this example is using IE 8) you will be prompted with the following: Click on Save to proceed save the zip file to your computer. Choose the location where you want to save the file and click on Save.
The download progress indicator should appear next. Upon completion of the file download you will want to click on Open. A new window should appear after selecting Open. Double click on Setup to start the installation of the Drake Headend Control Program. Depending on your system s configuration you may be prompted with a File Download - Security Warning prior to installation:
Click on Run to proceed. The Drake Installation Wizard should appear. Click on OK to proceed. Select the Location to install the application.
You can change the directory of the installation at this time if necessary. If the default location is ok click on to proceed. Select the Program Group Location for the application to appear in: You can modify the Program Group or use the default, click on Continue when you are ready to proceed.
The Installation progress bar should appear. If you have a prior version already installed on your PC, you will be prompted to keep or replace the file. Click on No to All to continue. This completes the installation of the Drake Headend Control Program installation; click OK to close the installation window.
Upgrade the Firmware on the SCT 2X4: To begin you will need to connect the Serial Straight-thru cable from your PC s serial port or USB Serial Adapter to the top DB9 connector on the back of the Drake SCT2x4 unit. Connect serial cable here. Set the Drake SCT 2x4 unit to receive the firmware update: On the front panel of the SCT 2x4, press and hold the Left, Enter, and Up buttons, all at the same time, for ~2 seconds. The screen should change to say Loading SCT2x4 QAM Boards
Next you will need to launch the Drake Headend Control Program from the same computer where you downloaded the program. Click on Start > All Programs > R.L Drake Digital Headend Control Program (or the Program Group you specified during the installation) and select the R.L. Drake Digital Headend Control Program. R.L. Drake Headend Control Program Home should appear.
Select Tools from the menu line and then Download Firmware to begin the download. The Download Firmware Screen will appear next. Select the Unit Type: SCT 2x4 and File to Download: SCT 2x4 V2.4H and click on Start to begin the download. It will take a few minutes to download, but after a successful download, the unit should reboot automatically. If you wish to verify what version is in the unit after, you can press the Up button on the front panel to see which version is currently loaded.
