Do you have to have any art experience to take an Art 1 class? Answer: No. There are no prerequisites for this course. All Art classes at BDJH are effort based. They are not graded on how good the student s work is, but instead, how well they follow directions and how hard they tried. Art 1 is a prerequisite for all other art classes. Students successfully passing Art 1 have the option of taking Art 2 in 7th and Art 3 in 8th grade OR they may take High School credit Art 1 in 8th grade. If you have any questions concerning this, please contact Mrs. Ouellette or Ms. Barnes How much homework do the art classes have? Answer: None of the Art classes at BDJH have homework for major projects. All major grades are completed in class. Students are permitted to take some artwork home to work on, but it is not required. If something was not completed in class it could become homework. How are projects and assignments graded in BDJH Art? Answer: All art classes at BDJH use a rubric for grading assignments. Some of the categories may include: Effort, Completion, Neatness and Following Directions. Do you have to be in art class to be a member of the art club? Answer: No. Anyone can join the art club. It meets once a month after school. There is a $15.00 fee that pays for supplies used. Is there an art fee for the art classes? Answer: There will an fee that students are required to pay for the class. These fees are for the art supplies students use in class. Students will be able to take all of their projects with them after they have been graded. The fee is listed in the Course Catalog and ca be paid on-line through the Home Access Center.

No experience necessary. Most students in their first year of band have limited or no musical experience. We teach you everything from the ground up to help you be successful. What instrument will I play? The band has a large number of instruments to choose from. After you have signed up for band, we will contact your parents so you can come and try the different instruments and find the one that is the best fit for you. Flute Oboe Bassoon Clarinet Alto Saxophone Trumpet French Horn Trombone Euphonium Tuba Percussion Can I be in band AND other activities? Yes! Most of our band members are involved in other activities. We have band members in Athletics, Cheerleading, Theatre, Art, Science Olympiad, Math Science Team.the list goes on and on. The most important thing is that you start your instrument in the sixth grade. Other activities are after school or don t require prior experience and can be added to your schedule later on when you have more elective choices. How do I sign up for band? All you have to do is list BAND as your first choice on the course selection sheet. The counselors will give us a list of everyone who signed up and the band directors will contact your parents from there so you can select an instrument.
