Developed the concept of the unconscious which demonstrated that human beings might NOT entirely be in control of their mental and physical processes. Goal of a surrealist work is to represent the unconscious, and for many Surrealists, the world of dreams is where the unconscious resides causing their works to take on a non-mimetic style.
