Introduction Thank you for downloading this 2014 Feng Shui Guide! This is the third year in a row I publish a yearly Feng Shui guide. I still remember how I was shocked to learn that there were over 3000 downloads recorded in a year! The popularity of this book series is simply awesome, I definitely would continue to publish this yearly Feng Shui guide. This Feng Shui Guide is written following traditional Flying Star Feng Shui ( ) principles. If you are not familiar with Feng Shui theories, Flying Star Feng Shui is the most trusted and popular Feng Shui system in Chinese societies. It has a long history and was used by emperors in ancient times. Basically this system utilizes the intangible energy (a.k.a. Chi) that naturally exists in the universe by examining the movement of nine Flying Stars ( ). These Stars occupy the eight corners and the center of every living space including your home, office, shops, etc. By knowing their whereabouts in 2014, you could avoid triggering the bad effects of the bad Flying Stars and maximize the use of positive energy brought by the good Flying Stars in this year. There is one thing you must know before using this guide. I have to repeat this year after year, because many people still could not catch this critical concept. According to traditional Feng Shui theories, a year begins in Spring ( ), which usually comes on 4 February every year. Therefore, everything we talk about in this book will only be effective from 4 February 2014 to 4 February 2015. In other words, do not start the new year Feng Shui design according to this book on the first day of the year or the Chinese New Year, but instead do it on the fourth day of February. This is an important advice that many Feng Shui books fail to mention. Let s start learning to bring you a happy, healthy and wealthy Year 2014! 2
Chapter 1 The Year of Horse (2014) in a Snapshot This is a new section I added since 2014 to provide a general overview of this coming year. According to Chinese Feng Shui theories, we could not only plan how to design Feng Shui according to the Flying Star map, but also to preview the coming year. By saying the word preview, I do not mean we hold the crystal ball and visualize the future happenings. No, that s impossible. What Flying Star Feng Shui is capable to do is to find out what effects the Flying Stars bring to different directions. The above diagram is the Flying Star map for 2014. It shows the position of the nine Flying Stars in this year. According to traditional Feng Shui theory, the upper side of this diagram is the Southern direction while the bottom is North. The left hand side is East and eight hand side is West. This 180- degree rotated map is different from the way people usually refer to directions. 3
The most important thing we focus on is the box in the center. It gives us an overview of the coming year. In 2014 the Flying Star 4 will occupy the central portion. Flying Star 4 is one strongly associated with study, fame, career and culture. We could therefore say that these sectors may be relatively more popular and flourishing. Flying Star 8 belongs to the Xun Gua ( ) of the Ba Gua ( ) System. Xun Gua represents wind, when this Flying Star occupies the central portion of the Flying Star Map, we believe that 2014 may be a year with relatively more wind and rain, such as hurricane, typhoon and rainstorm. Besides, the wooden nature of Flying Star 8, according to the Five- element Theory ( ), is incompatible with the original earth nature of the central box of the Flying Star Map. This may result in higher chance of earth- related issues such as earthquake and landslide. In terms of health, health problems related to the skin, digestive system, nerve, liver and eyes may be more common. The health of children and infants may also be a concern. 4
Chapter 2 Year of Horse Basic Feng Shui Design In the Flying Star Map shown in the last chapter, I have highlighted the 4 bad directions in grey. So the Southeast, East, Northeast and Northwest of your house are places where the bad Flying Stars 3, 2, 7, and 5 occupy in this year. The remaining directions are where you may find good Chi brought by Flying Stars 1, 4, 6, 8 and 9. One particular note is for North. Although this is where the lucky Flying Star 9 locates, it is also the San Sha ( ) direction and Shui Puo ( ) direction of the year. You should never carry out any building or repair works in this direction. Otherwise, bad luck and health problems may be induced. Similarly, South is the Tai Shui ( ) direction. In Chinese we have a saying that you should not touch the Tai Shui, so again do not carry out works in South in 2014. In the coming paragraphs, I ll explain to you what to do and what not to in these 8 directions and the center of your house, office, shop, room or any space you occupy.
East Flying Star 2 ( ) comes to East in 2014, making this a bad direction in this year. This Flying Star means illness. If any of the entrance door, desk, kitchen or bedroom of your house is located here, people in the house or that bedroom may get sick easier in this year. If your child s desk is here, your child may be unable to focus on his/her study. All in all, this direction means bad luck, you would want to stay away from it. What makes the situation even worst is that the direction East would add another bad effect if it meets Flying Star 2. In 2014, apart from health there may also be bad interpersonal relationship or even disputes if the main entrance, kitchen or bedroom is in this direction. Do s and Don ts A simple way to address the issues brought by Flying Star 2 is to place a calabash here. The calabash should be in golden color. It is believed that calabash could suck in and contain bad luck. So placing calabash in East in 2014 could help to reduce bad effects. You may also consider placing a metallic music box here and make it sound often. 1
Southeast This year, Flying Star 3 ( ) comes to Southeast. This Flying Star relates to everything about disagreement between people, such as bad interpersonal relationship, disputes and lawsuits. (Photo via Leonid Mamchenkov, CC Licence) It follows naturally that if the main entrance door of your house is located in this direction, people living in this house are more likely than not to involve in disputes with other family members as well as other people such as their colleagues and friends. The worst case may even mean involvement in law suits. If you have children and their study desks are placed in the Southeast corner of the house, chances are they may not get along well with classmates and teachers. Home office workers may face difficulty in winning the hearts of clients if their desks are located at Southeast of the house. And the principle applies to the location of bedroom and bed. If your bedroom is located in this direction inside the house, you would be adversely affected by this bad Flying Star. On the other hand, the direction Southeast brings a good effect amid all the bad things above. Having Flying Star 3 in Southeast could be good for study, examination, job promotion and fame! 2
Do s and Don ts Certainly you should avoid triggering the bad effect of this Flying Star. Do not carry out building works in this side of your house. If unfortunately the entrance door, kitchen, stove, study desk, bedroom or bed in your house is located here, you can place something red there, e.g. a wall- hung painting in red. The Flying Star 3 belongs to wood, so we put red things that carry fire characteristic to reduce the influence of wood (just like how we burn a wood). 3
South The Flying Star in South in 2014 is Flying Star 8 ( ). This Star represents wealth and prosperity. It also carries the meaning of happiness, so good things would certainly happen if this Flying Star is properly used. Particularly since the current Yun ( ), i.e. a 20- year Period began in 2004 and will end in 2023, is the Eighth Yun. The Flying Star 8 is a prevailing Star which brings extremely good luck. (Photo via Jeremy Schultz, CC Licence) If the entrance door of your house opens to the South, it means that people living in your house would probably have better luck in investment and work. And for people who work at home this is the best location to place your desk. Even for health, this is a good direction. A good use of it is to have the bed in this corner of the house. Only in 2014, this Flying Star has an interaction with the original fire nature of this box in the Flying Star Map. The end result is a higher chance of having happy events such as a new born baby, wedding, etc. So if the entrance door or bed is located in South, it is a good sign. Do s and Don ts To make full good use of this good Flying Star for wealth growth, make sure you put your desk there. If the main entrance of your flat is located in South, this is certainly good for the whole family. It is also no harm to place your bed here as well, since this Flying Star is simply 4
good for everything. In fact, sometimes Feng Shui masters would advise clients would have serious bodily conditions or disease to relocate the bed to where the Flying Star 8 locates. If unfortunately the main entrance, bed or desk in your flat is not in South and you cannot practically relocate the bed or desk, you can put things related to water in South, such as a fish aquarium or water fountain so as to make use of the positive energy of the Flying Star 8. However, since South is also the Tai Shui direction in 2014, please remember not to carry out any building / construction / repair works in this direction of the house, otherwise bad luck and sickness may occur. 5
Southwest Southwest is the where the Flying Star 1 ( ) locates in 2014. It represents Tao Hua ( ), which literally means peach blossom, which is good for relationship and love. It could mean good relationship with friends, family members and colleagues, as well as good luck in finding your princess or white knight. So if you want to start a new relationship, South is the direction to utilize in 2014. (Photo via mrhayata, CC Licence) On the other hand, if you don t want to let your child have a boyfriend/girlfriend so early (focus on study, that s what Chinese Tiger Mums usually say), then do not put his/her desk or bed in Southwest. However, the Flying Star 1 has some kind of bad interaction with the original earth nature of the Southwest direction in the Flying Star Map. This means that in the overall good luck there may also be occasional bad luck. Besides, there is relatively higher chance of sickness in this year if the entrance door or bed is located in Southwest. 6
Do s and Don ts Those who are single can utilize the Tao Hua effect this Flying Star brings by placing a vase with a flower here. Remember you should choose a colorful flower such as a pink one (in any case not yellow). It should not have sharp prickles like those on rose. The reason behind is that water and flower can boost the effects of the Flying Star 1. To counteract the possible bad luck and health concern, you may also place a grey carpet or rug in this direction if it is where the entrance door or bed locates. 7
West Flying Star 6 ( ) occupies West in year 2014. This Star means movement. Many people in Asia who want to migrate to another country utilize this Flying Star. This star also means travelling, job change and relocation. This could be good or bad. Some people like changes but some don t. Besides, while this star may bring job change, it could also mean heavier workload and busier life. After all, it depends on whether you like the change this star brings. In 2014, this Flying Star meets the original metallic nature of the direction West on the Flying Star Map. Flying Star 6 itself is also of metallic nature. The meeting of metals could produce health problems in bones, teeth, mouth or the respiratory system, particularly if the entrance door or bed is in this direction of the flat. Besides, for the same reason, the chance of having loss of properties, theft or robbery would be relatively higher if the entrance door or bedroom is in this direction. In terms of interpersonal relationship, there may be disputes and quarrels among the occupiers inside the house, as well as with people outside. Do s and Don ts If you want a change in 2012, say to move to a larger house, you would need to utilize this Flying Star. Find the West of your house and put something of water characteristic, for example, a black carpet or a water fountain. If all you want is a migration to another place, put an ornament in horse shape here. To alleviate the bad effects mentioned above, again try placing something related to water as mentioned above. 8
Northwest Flying Star 5 ( ) flies to Northwest in 2014 and brings not only bad luck but also health problems and bad interpersonal relationships. According to Flying Star Feng Shui theory, this is the worst Flying Star. (Photo via Phil & Pam, CC Licence) If the main entrance, kitchen, bedroom, bed or desk is located here, the relevant people would be adversely affected. No matter health, career, relationships everything would not be good. This Flying Star is particularly bad for male, and very particularly bad for the eldest male/son in the family. Do s and Don ts No matter what, avoid starting building/construction/repair works here. Besides, if the entrance door, kitchen or bedroom is located here, you need some special treatment here. Originally, the best solution to the threat of Flying Star 5 is metal. However, using metal in 9
Northwest may produce side effects. Therefore, in 2014 I d suggest placing water features such as dynamic water fountain or simply a big container of water here. 10
North Flying Star 9 ( ) locates in North in 2014. It means happiness, new baby, new career and marriage. Besides, it also brings good luck for everything. (Chinese Double Happiness Photo via Mr Wabu, CC Licence) It is good that your entrance door locates in this direction, because people in the house would have higher chance of conceiving a baby, getting married or starting a new career (i.e. everything good). It is also good if you bedroom is located in this direction. What makes North even better in 2014 is that the North direction itself is associated with Flying Star 1, a Star which is one of the best in this Eighth Period. When Flying Star 9 of the year meets the Flying Star 1, the positive effect could be doubled. On the other hand, the North direction is adversely affected by two other elements in 2014. Firstly, the San Sha direction is in North in this year. San Sha brings very bad effect to health and interpersonal issues if it is ever triggered. Secondly, North is also the Shui Puo direction 11
in 2014. Shui Po is another bad element that could bring bad health or even threat to life if triggered. Do s and Don ts As mentioned, when Flying Star 9 meets 1, very good luck could be produced. If the main entrance or bedroom is in this direction, you don t even need to do any Feng Shui measures to trigger the good effects. But if you want to maximize the luck (yes, human being is greedy), you can place a green or blue carpet here. At the same time, to avoid attracting bad luck due to San Sha and Shui Puo, remember your must never carry out any building / repair / construction works in this direction in this year, not even as minor as nailing a picture frame on the wall. Besides, do not place stuff that could produce much sound or vibration here. 12
Northeast Flying Star 7 ( ) comes to Northeast in 2014. This star means loss of wealth due to theft, robbery, bad debt, bad luck in investment, etc. Besides, this Flying Star also has the bad effect of bad interpersonal relationship. Unless you work in the casino or show business, this is not a good direction. If the main entrance, bedroom or kitchen locates in this direction, the occupants of the house may lose money in investment and gambling easily. The wealth luck would also be bad so there may be bigger expenditure in this year. Besides, there may be turmoil due to interpersonal issues. For health, there may be accidents and injury due to metal (e.g. cut by knife, car accident, etc.) Fortunately, the Northeast direction itself is quite compatible with Flying Star 7, so there would also be good effects brought by this direction to reduce the bad effects of Flying Star 7. Do s and Don ts To reduce the chance of losing property, if the main entrance door or bedroom is located in this corner of the house, you should place a black carpet or a big container of water here. This would help to reduce the possible bad effects. 13
Center Flying Star 4 ( ) occupies the central portion of the Flying Star Map in 2014. This star helps people who need to study and work. It is particularly good for white collar workers. If used properly, this star could help people working in office to get promotion. But since this Flying Star come to the center in this year, it may be relatively difficult to have a main entrance door or bedroom here and be benefitted (it is quite rare to have main entrance or bedroom in the center of a flat, right?). On the other hand, having Flying Star 4 in central may produce bad effects to health, particularly sicknesses related to skin and bones. Do s and Don ts To utilize the good effect of this Flying Star, it is great to place your desk here for good study or career life. If space does not allow the movement of desks, you can put a green plant here, preferably in the quantity of four. 14
