For new (bare) timber, first allow the timber to weather for 4-6 weeks. 1 For previously stained, oiled or painted timber, remove coating and take back to bare using a paint stripper or by sanding. 2 Prepare the surface using Cabot s Deck Clean and a stiff bristled brush. Test to see if it s ready for coating by sprinkling water on the surface. If the water beads, repeat the application of Deck Clean.
