The sharks return early this year as Discovery s Shark Week kicks off with Shark N Awe June 26th at 7:00 p.m. Channel Updates MTCO digimax TV has increased its family friendly programming with the addition of two new channels: FamilyNet on channel 32, and Three Angels Broadcasting (3ABN) on chanel 33. In addition, TBN is now available in HD on channel 580, and on June 1st, TBN Church Channel will be renamed TBN Hillsong Channel (only a name change as the programming and content will remain the same). Other recent channel updates include BBC World News HD being moved from channel 576 to 485. On May 30th, MTV Hits (channel 351) will transition its station to Nick Hits. In Our Community Redbird Replay Awards MTHS Athletic Director Jared Hart awarded a Certificate of Appreciation to MTHS senior students Alex Staab and Dylan Vericker for their time and efforts to help bring Redbird Replay to the community on MTCO s digimax local channel. Dylan (middle) helped with taping volleyball matches, and Alex (right), helped with taping and play-by-play responsibilities for volleyball, soccer, and basketball. Summer Reading Program Join in for some summer reading fun at the Illinois Prairie District Public Library! Their theme this summer is Read for the Win All you need to do is read books and earn prizes! Program registration begins on May 31st and you have until July 16th to finish the program, collect your prizes, and qualify for the ending pool party. Stop by any of the six branches, including Germantown Hills and Metamora. There will be three separate programs for different age groups: three years old to first grade, second to fifth grade and young adults. Bertha Snyder Scholarship Winners Announced Metamora Community Foundation presented $1,000 scholarships to four Metamora Township High School seniors at the school s annual Awards Assembly on Thursday, May 5, 2016. These scholarships are given to full-time students in the Metamora area who are pursuing a career in the field of education or medicine. Recipients of the Bertha Snyder Scholarships are Morgan Brockhouse, Meghan Feldmann, Melissa Lane, and Madison Shaw, all of Metamora. The Foundation is a charitable corporation whose purpose is to promote, encourage, foster and cultivate a healthy interest in the welfare of and a spirit of cooperation among the residents of Metamora. Rotary Pork Chop Cookout The Metamora- Germantown Hills Rotary Club Pork Chop Cookout will be held at Metamora IGA on Friday, June 3rd from 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., and on Saturday, June 4th from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Enjoy a fresh grilled pork chop sandwich, chips and a soda or water for $5.00. Get Ready to Shop! The Metamora Village-Wide Garage Sales are on Saturday, June 4th. Some sales will be on June 2nd and 3rd, too. These will be designated on the listing/ map. The listings/maps will be available at Metamora Pharmacy starting May 30th through June 4th, and at the sale sites when open. The MTHS Key Club will also be hosting their annual rummage sale on June 3rd and June 4th from 8:00 am. - 2:00 p.m. at the Bus Barn. They will be raising money for Spastics Paralysis Research Foundation and for their club members to attend a convention. Tiny Tots Photo Contest The GFWC Illinois Metamora-Germantown Hills Junior Woman s Club is sponsoring a Tiny Tots Photo Contest that is open to all children, two years old and under as of June 22, 2016. To enter, submit a recent 5x7 picture, a $5.00 entry fee, along with a completed entry form on or before Friday, June 17th. Your child s picture will be displayed for voting to take place at their booth during Old Settlers Days.
